The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

This is what I was afraid of... It’s not executing the option ROM for the SATA portion of the card. But you said you had SATA working before with your scripts? That’s very odd if so, as that’s what I based this script off of. Maybe try changing the ordering in which each device is initialized...

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

Wow, I didn’t even think of doing that... That’ll surely make the script WAY smaller. As for the 6500 info, I can get you that once I grab my machine in a couple weeks. I can even dump the entire system ROM for you, if that’d be of use (which I wanted to do anyways to patch in support for...

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

This patch is more meant for the SIIG USB/FireWire/SATA combo card, but the patch made by @cheesestraws for the Tango 2.0 should work, as far as I'm aware.

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

I think I got it!! After a bit of analysis, I believe I have crafted a working NVRAMRC script, that not only should enable ALL the devices on the combo card (all USB ports, FireWire and SATA), but is ALSO even smaller than the original script! I have attached an expanded, easy-to-read version...

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

Awesome, thanks a ton. Going to mess around with this in a couple weeks, when I get a chance to grab my PowerMac 6500.

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

When in RAID mode, the option ROM would just not initialize at all, leaving it as “pci1095,3112” in Open Firmware. When switching it into Mass Storage mode, the option ROM initialized properly and the device then showed as “SeriTek 1S2...” in Open Firmware, and of course worked properly as well...

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

Could you post a copy of the patch with the modifications you've made? I'd like to see if there may be some way to optimize it slightly. Also, with regard to the SATA portion of it, was the machine able to load and execute the necessary option ROM?

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

On another note, I'm strongly considering just making my own combo card that doesn't utilize a PCI-PCI bridge at all, but rather just puts all the controllers on the main PCI bus, making this entire issue irrelevant. The only issue that WOULD arise from doing this would be the potential for one...

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

Alright, got it done, and converted into (what I believe is) usable FCode. I attached all files necessary. "fcode-test.fc" is the tokenized FCode in binary form. This can be loaded directly into Open Firmware using the "boot" command from a storage device (for testing). "fcode-test.txt" is the...

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

Ah, I've dealt with loading FCode from NVRAMRC before, and have a usable script that will do so. I'm currently working on converting your "NewTango2.0" Forth script to FCode, so we'll see how small it can be made once tokenized.

The Great Gazelle PCI Hack Thread, Part 2

Just went around looking for this after someone mentioned it in a comment on my YouTube video about that combo card... Wouldn't it be possible to tokenize the patch into FCode (with some modification)? I'd assume that would decrease the size of it at least somewhat, and it can be executed from...

Macintosh SE Random Sad Mac Errors

The Macintosh SE I acquired about 2 years ago seems to be having intermittent issues, that seem to have gotten worse since I've owned the machine. Basically, sometimes when the machine is powered up, it doesn't chime and instantly throws a Sad Mac error. Other times, the Sad Mac will appear...

    Best PRAM Battery?

The photo of the Varta battery posted above is from my Macintosh SE. Although the battery was still working fine, I removed it, just to avoid any chance of leakage. The best solution I've found is to solder a CR2032 battery holder in it's place, allowing for easy future battery replacement, and...

Macintosh SE CR2032 PRAM Battery Modification

I just thought I'd start a post detailing a very cheap PRAM battery modification I've done to my Macintosh SE, using a CR2032 battery. This is an original, 800K only Macintosh SE (pre-FDHD/SuperDrive), so it uses a soldered on Varta 3V 1/2 AA size Lithium battery (The FDHD/SuperDrive models use...
