*screams in jealousy, especially with the mac IIs*
i actually did find a centris 650 in the ruins of a burnt down electronics store but it was unfortunately beyond all repairs, the only surviving part is a 25mhz full 68040.
nice finds, by the way. someday i should go to VCF but i've got way more...
got a powermac 6400 off of ebay, can't wait for it to arrive. also getting a radeon 7000 to flash to a mac ROM and will transfer my g3 upgrade from my 6360 over. its gonna be a killer system 7 machine
you can order the boards with the bottom side passives from JLCPCB with the pick and place files, though you might need to flip the 3 pin diodes near where the ram slot holes are. also you might need to change some of the parts since they don't always have the stock for some parts.
i have a couple of pre-balled 1GHz 7455A chips and i'm thinking i want to get a 2002 eMac and a spare board, and swap one in. also i have a couple of dead G4 cards and the 2002 eMacs and iMac G4s have provisions for L3 cache. pretty sure you can tell what this girl is thinking about doing
+500mhz CPU clock boost, totally worth it /j
jokes aside those are nice replacements. while i prefer tantalums i do use electrolytics or anything that still works, mainly from scrap boards. it's a good form of reusing electronic components from otherwise faulty systems, but i don't reuse caps...
make sure you've put the right caps in the right spots, sometimes substituting other values can cause problems. and yeah i'd check the daughterboard, that has a couple of SMD caps that should be replaced. the IIsi notoriously has a very failure prone PSU and unfortunately the caps on those seem...
i already have a lot of SCA disks around from when my high school tech teacher was getting rid of them and i'd like to put them to good use. sure they take up more power, they scream bloody murder, and they run hotter than the sun (and i already know this)... but i have a lot of them and i need...
only reason i have one is because a guy i knew on discord had to clear out his inventory and he had an SE/30 that i bought for the cost of shipping, complete with a rasterops colorboard 264. thats never gonna happen again because it simply won't happen more than once in this day and age.
i am a novice IIsi witch, i overpaid for an untested and nonworking unit from a local computer shop but i managed to get her working, and even went out of my way to upgrade the onboard RAM because i am dedicated enough to do stupid things.
seems like theres also some severe cap leakage; this is definitely something you'd want to use for a reloaded board. the muxes are 100% going to be fried, you'll have to replace them. PALs seem to be fine, video ROM may or may not work, the 68030 also might not work, ADB chip is likely shot, but...
its TINY! i love it. definitely seems like the better option for these especially considering these pizza box macs don't take much power, and they don't use soft power. i'll definitely buy one.
yeah, i'm sure it does... lol. they're definitely cheaper than the half AA batteries, and they don't last as long. but they're more convenient when you do need to replace the battery for sure.
if you have a passive matrix display, yes. if yours is active matrix, no. the easiest way to tell is if your screen has more severe ghosting iirc, passive matrix refreshes slower and has a ghosting effect if you move something on screen (could be anything), active matrix is like what most LCD...
yeaaaaahhhh.... i hope i didn't screw up the video PAL. speaking of video... has anyone recreated the micron xceed card stuff? i'd love to have one because the SE/30 deserves better than 512x342 at 1 bit color...
i think for one thing my attempt at fixing the original board last year had done some damage to the chips because i know the solder paste i used then was crap... thankfully i've already watched some replacement chips on ebay so i'll buy those when i have a more disposable budget.. lol. not sure...
