oh sweet, thank you so much for the ebay link! yeah i can figure out the smd mounting situation just fine, lol... im doing this to a 6400/180 board, would it also be a good idea to change the multiplier for the CPU clock speed? otherwise i believe this runs at 225mhz now (at least until sonnet's...
right next to the CPU bus there appears to be a spot for a 4pin crystal, but im not so sure it would work the same. i have a 50mhz 4pin smd crystal but not a 2pin, otherwise i'd do this mod in a heartbeat ^^;
SWIM chip might be shot... sadly these commonly fail on SE/30s for whatever reason. speaking of chips, the cap leakage/corrosion may still be present underneath them, and couldve caused some traces to break.
also, on a less related note, if you are okay with it i would be interested in...
hmmmmm.... i dont know that i ever saw much of a point to this but its interesting. i have noticed OS 8.0 and 8.1 are much, much closer to 7.6.1 than 8.5 and later (which is PPC native, and also faster) ;)
i know on 8.0 and 8.1 you can use the OS without appearance manager whatsoever...
hello, i have a power macintosh 6400 with a sonnet G3 upgrade and 104MB of RAM (also looking for two 64MB sticks of 5V EDO DIMM memory for this thing that don't cost a fortune...), and the machine is quite nice. however i have experienced an issue recently after i turned the system on after a...
i'm gonna have to try this on my 6400/180. that's super cool. i replaced the crystal once but that was not stable... gee i wonder why... and yes i also have a sonnet card but its only 300MHz with 1MB of L2 cache (originally 512K, i actually upgraded the chips!) also i am confused. does the...
fill me in... how the heck did you people get 128MB of RAM on the LC475?? also i am curious about other upgrades i can do. i have one of these computers with a full 68040 running at 25mhz.
have you tried it on a different powermac G4 or adapter? i assume insufficient power delivery could be an issue... but it does seem like a failed backlight could be related to the bulbs in the display being bad or something though i've personally never seen a display detect bad bulbs or...
your research did indeed pay off, thank you so much. 20mb in the 520!! pulled ram chips from a dead 5300cs board i had sitting in scrap and soldered them on to the kingston card
If the capacitors are bad you should replace them, or have someone do it for you. That is what is causing the power issues on the eMac. I would also suggest to check the analog board for any bad caps, because those can fail too. A lot of eMacs were made during the height of the capacitor plague...
I didn't even think about that. I sincerely apologize, things haven't been going so well for me as of late and I should have thought twice before posting something like that. Honestly I would rather not be involved in this drama any longer (provided it goes on), since I see where they are coming...
Honestly I am not quite sure. If they're the same values, replacing those with good quality caps shouldn't be an issue. Not sure what the deal with the caps being different types was, but I personally do not see much of a difference to warrant further changes with a recap.
I second this. These bezels are getting more expensive, harder to find, and even then you're still dealing with the brittle plastics. I had to completely part out one iMac because it was in terrible shape, and the inner bezel on that was completely SHOT. I did need the parts to fix another unit...
I wonder if the caps are to blame. I replaced a handful of the ones in the power supply and some of those were starting to leak a bit. Also recapped the motherboard. These machines are getting closer to 28-30 years old now...
