TattleTech reports:
◊ AppleShare Client is Present = Yes
+ AppleShare Client is Running = Yes
+ AppleShare Client Version = [Unknown]
Any other way I can check the version?
when working with the modern MacOS:
I must map my shared NAS folder to /mnt/afpshare, otherwise it does not work.
In fact I can find the files in the container, in root@netatalk-netatalk31:/mnt/afpshare# and the MacOS correctly sees it when "Connect to Server...".
If I try to map a different...
from the MacBook M1 the afp:// works, I can authenticate, good, NAS wise it's all set
instead from Basilisk II + System 7.5.3 + O.T 1.1.2 + Apple Talk 60.1.2 active + Apple Client Present
I have a "This file server does not use a recognizable log on sequence."
From this VM I can access the NAS...
thanks @slipperygrey
foreword: I'm moving out of my comfort zone
I disabled the AFP in my Synology NAS 218+
I downloaded both images, netatalk21 and netatalk31
I configured the mandatory variables AFP_USER, AFP_PASS, ATALKD_INTERFACE the latter matching the IP of the NAS.
My test machine is...
this is good, thanks.
I don't see the image being pushed to a registry, e.g. docker hub.
I'd need this to install it in my Synology.
Yes I could build it locally and upload it ... ;)
there are several other Netatalk images, some very recents, one from the official Netatalk maintainer would be...

there is thread here where I described how I replaced a faulty SWIM...
long story short: replacing a fan with a low noise one will reduce the cooling ability, assuming the original fan is not worn out or producing excessive noise.
Is it?
I have heard comments that the noctua fans are indeed silent but the RPM is low, and as such they can not extract as much heat as the more noisy one, resulting essentially useless.
Any comments with experience to share?
Tattletech is the one you need, just try a different img, dsk or sit file
Try this attachment, rename it to .img first (the site does not accept a .img extension)
Tattletech 2.17 created with diskcopy 6.3.2
I successfully completed the ATX conversion.
I connected the fan and the relay for the 230VAC for the monitor.
To reverse the PS-ON I used a NPN. To avoid a larger PCB I inserted the resistors in the wires protected by the heat shrink insulators.
The NPN transistor is connected to the 3 wires...
correct @pizzigri , the model is 820-0360-B, I just added it to the README.
Replacing the PS is IMO already doable from the kicad file or from the dxf, but it's outside of my comfort zone due to lack of competences, I just did some donkey work
I have enabled AFP back in the Synology(*)
Initially all the files in the shared folder were sit archives, or hqx or disk images.
By chance I expanded a sit file in the shared folder from a connected Mac and to my surprise data and resource forks were preserved.
I can leave the uncompressed...
Mm, you can consider to lay some metallic/aluminum tape inside along the entire diagonal, covering the crack and more to give it more strength. Glueing a thin sheet of metal or plastic can also help, still I can not recall how much space you have. The pros is that it's invisible and it preserves...
Congratulations, it's great machine. The "made in France" sticker (of course it was not) and the french flag in the desktop make it all a bit weird, I could guess the previous owner was a french guy/lady leaving in Japan
