@djc6 Thanks for your reply and the ideas you shared.
Yesterday, I finally got a sign of life from the speaker, so the headphones are no longer necessary.
As for the serial connection, it’s on my to-do list, but only after I’m certain the traces have been repaired. From there, I’ll focus on...
please help, I'm now clueless
Current Observations:
Power Supply:
+12V reaches the Sony chips. @slaanesh
+5V is present where expected.
The grounds are fine and show no shorts.
The chips warm up as expected.
Clock Signals:
Inspected the UG7 clock generator using an oscilloscope:
Signals on...
"It seems that the clock signal from pin 1 of the UG7 PAL16R8B should be a square wave.
What could be causing this issue? A grounding issue maybe?
Could the testing from outside the case lacks a proper grounding? Should I also connect the ground of the board to the case? Even if don't see this...
I’m currently working on a heavily damaged Macintosh SE/30. The original post on the repair process can be found here: Salvaging bombed SE/30.
I've restored continuity in the address lines between the RAM multiplexer (MUX), ROM SIMM, VROM, and CPU, and verified the data lines from the ROM SIMM...
yeah, I got that, it was meant "In the meanwhile I put it under the sunlight". The heat gun did not work for me, maybe the solder mark has a different chemistry
I've added all the previously broken traces, to the best of my ability.
The Address and Data lines have been fixed, along with the RCMUX, GND, VCC, and all the resistor lines associated with the RAM multiplexers, plus RAAF and RABF lines to the RAM SIMMs. The PDS lines are not yet connected; I...
The baby is with me now.
I haven’t opened it yet, as I’m already working on the SE/30 project.
The CRT is functioning, but I’m wondering—should I service it by inspecting and, if necessary, replacing the capacitors?
Data and address lines are all set now... what a mess!
I managed to avoid four bodges by restoring contact from two vias to the trace. The acid had eroded the surface of the vias, breaking the connection with the trace, it went almost unnoticed. Using solder paste and quality flux, I was able...
have a look here, it's helping me

I realize now it's not useful :D .. sorry
UJ2 is now in place, and all connections are routed as intended.
Creating the pads and traces for UJ2 was particularly challenging for me. The MUX is slightly crooked, which is a bit painful to look at, but there’s continuity and no shorts, so I’m satisfied. I didn’t think I’d manage to get...
I got this very nice Apple IIc, finally! I was looking forward for the whole set!!
The pic was taken by the owner, so it's not in my "cave" yet.
About the checkboard ... what should I expect? Anything already known? I searched for "checkboard" in this forum but got nothing
@obsolete thanks, I was not aware of the latest version.
@SECoyote. I ordered the PBCs and the parts ... + #2 68030 from eBay (Poland).
I need the GALs programmer as well ... and get some experience with it ....
I'll keep posted about the progress... it will take a while ... too many things in...
