    Macintosh SE/30 list of capacitors

I maintain a list of replacement capacitors at https://www.hobbesnet.org/wiki/macintosh:logic-board-capacitors. I have links to specific part numbers I use. I only have part numbers for aluminum electrolytic and aluminum polymer. These are more difficult to solder than tantalum (mainly due to...

This seems to imply a 720x350 resolution.

battery cage for SE30, where to get a replacement?

I use Keystone part number 108 (battery holder) and 108C (cover). https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/keystone-electronics/108/36-108-ND/275347 https://www.digikey.com/products/en/battery-products/accessories/87?k=keystone%20108c

Tearing down an SE/30 - is there a trick to getting the power plug out?

No, the SE also has a clip on the logic board connector (J12).

Tearing down an SE/30 - is there a trick to getting the power plug out?

All of the aluminum can capacitors are bad. C1, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7, C8, C9, C10, C12, C13. The first photo ben68 posted is what I see all the time (and when I say "all the time," I mean every single board I look at): corroded pads, corroded vias, corroded pins, eaten away traces, all swimming in...

Tearing down an SE/30 - is there a trick to getting the power plug out?

I have never seen a soldered black varta leak, but I cut them out anyway. I suspect that the leaking and corrosion on the SE/30 is worse than you give credit for. I haven't seen an uncapped SE/30 in the last couple years whose life wasn't hanging by a thread. That corrosion is permanent damage...

Tearing down an SE/30 - is there a trick to getting the power plug out?

Yes, the computer will run fine without the battery. It won't remember the date and time or a few other settings, like audio volume.

    SE/30 Intermittent Twitching Screen

They are helpful documents and I appreciate your effort. We should consolidate them somewhere central so that they're easily found and referenced. I hope you continue to contribute these resources and don't let my comment discourage that. I just wish we had a better organization system.

    Old Mac, Modern Internet

If you did that, your Facebook page would be completely blank. It doesn't have any static pictures or a news feed. What it has is a payload of Javascript over 2MB in size that makes hundreds of network requests for assets, templates, content, etc. It has its own rendering engine (called React)...

    SE/30 Intermittent Twitching Screen

All these PDFs are useful in general, but they don't address 68krazy's specific problem. They really belong in their own thread. apm has already identified the most likely solution here.

This is way cooler than I imagined when you first started the thread. Now you have me thinking of what other mini-Macs might be fun to make.

    Macintosh SE/30 Schematics (modernization effort)

Anyway I think we have derailed this thread enough. I look forward to seeing Alex's progress on modernizing the SE/30 schematics.

    Macintosh SE/30 Schematics (modernization effort)

The part that rubs people wrong is charging money for them. Macintosh Garden doesn't sell other people's intellectual property for profit. I agree that before anyone crucifies the guy over this, that it has to be determined whether he has rights to sell them. From this post it seems pretty...

    Old Mac, Modern Internet

Absolutely. I think the problem is that you don't understand what most websites are doing on a fundamental level. Thousands of man-years have been spent optimizing web browsers for performance. The only way you will make them faster is by ripping out features wholesale. When you start doing...

I have the source archive from MacTech, but it's only the source code. Perhaps you can figure out how to compile it. https://www.hobbesnet.org/tmp/develop_25.sit

    Macintosh SE/30 Schematics (modernization effort)

He hired BOMARC for the Color Classic schematic, that is true. All of the other schematics were in the BOMARC catalog since it first appeared online in the early 2000s, and were likely created long before then.

    Old Mac, Modern Internet

You hit a number of the major reasons why a modern browser for vintage machines isn't possible. I almost posted a rant when I read "Arranging pictures, showing text, and loading pictures/text from other sites alone really shouldn't be that expensive." Modern web rendering uses massive amounts of...

    SE/30 FDD stopped working correctly

No, have this one repaired. At this late date it is a surprise to find any non-recapped SE/30 that works at all. As time goes by, more and more of these boards will become unrepairable. Get it fixed while it still has a chance.
