Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
My original goal was by the end of March. At this point, I think it's unlikely I will make that date. There are some unknowns I need to work out still. The biggest two are whether the prototype PCB will need any fixes and how much work implementing the firmware upgrade bootloader will be.
I...
As for getting the tools onto your Mac: You need a floppy drive (USB is fine) and HFVExplorer. You can create a disk image in HFVExplorer, copy the files onto it, then write it to a floppy.
Use a keycap puller and wiggle it around as you gently pull up to avoid breaking the stem off. Be careful of the wide keys that have stabilizers. You want to get the stem lose without breaking the stabilizer hooks which will still be attached after the cap is free from the switch. After the cap...
The Delta is very loud. But you won't find one that is much quieter with the same airflow. I will probably get a Delta myself at some point just to see how it sounds.
If you get the Delta instead of the Noctua, you'll also have to figure out how to get it connected to power. The Noctua comes...
Sure, if you don't mind a chance of getting electrocuted, you don't need to discharge the CRT. I don't trust the bleeder resister to work, simply put. And I don't like getting electrocuted. The process is simple as can be.
Grounding to the frame is perfectly fine. And it stays attached better...
Yes, that is correct. Some people connect the clip to that corner CRT screw with the white ground wire connected to it, because that's what the service manual says to do. But alligator clips slip off of it fairly easily so it is a bit safer to connect to the frame instead, in my opinion. The...
The full brightness, yank the cord thing is complete and utter nonsense. I cannot word that strongly enough. Anyone who tells you this should never give electronics advice again.
Follow this incredibly simple guide that CelGen made...
Why not get the Noctua? It is 19 CFM and very quiet. I misread the Elina specs before, it's also a ~12 CFM fan. So you'll get 50% more airflow over stock with the Noctua. I would not trade the CFM of the Noctua for the dBA of the Acoustifan. I don't have this exact Noctua fan, but in my...
Thanks for the heads up. Maybe what I will do is ship it with stuff that doesn't work on the IIgs disabled by default and then write a Mac app for configuring the options.
Doing two things at once is actually the problem, not the solution. The events from different devices happen in parallel, whereas with a macro (control-click), they need to happen serially. It doesn't matter. It's not like I'm going to not implement macros.
If you get gunk on the platters, the game is over. I mean, you can try to clean it off... but I've never seen anyone succeed at that without making things worse. If it's just a tiny speck then you can get lucky.
So, the ADB protocol actually has room in it for a 2nd mouse button. But I doubt the system software will acknowledge that it exists. What did the 2-button mice you're thinking of do with the second button? I used a Kensington trackball that had two buttons (and later four). You used the...
The replacement for the gear that usually breaks is here:

That's a pack of 4. If you just want one, try ebay...
I actually bought a hardcopy of volume IV a week or two ago because I couldn't find it online. I don't know why I didn't think of checking the developer cds! Duh!
Still waiting for the book to arrive... media mail is slow!
