Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I've thought about trying this too- I just wonder what the LCD will do with modes other than 800x600. It doesn't use a scaler, even for TV/Video (unless I just haven't known how to use it.)
Since it's basically the same board as a 6500, I'm pretty certain you won't need to worry about the...
Confirmation of both points: yes, I had been using 64MB EDO SIMMs which explains why the DOS card didn't like them. Thanks for mentioning it!
And these SIMMs together achieve the full 196MB:
If my memory serves (no parity here either) PC Sound is selectable in the Monitors & Sound panel on the 6500, but simply listed as 'TV/Video' so it mixes with TV/FM/RCA sound.
My running theory is they only added sound to the GIMO on the edge connector systems (since the CD audio routing is...
Sweet, thanks in advance!
I still need to get to the IIfx - it very visibly needs caps replaced on the board before I'd want to try the PSU. As I photograph/test the Yarc cards I'll try to remove the other heatsinks to see what happens. I feel kind of weird interting TIM between a chip and its...
I didn’t realize there were two revisions. Do you have any Rev A photos handy?
I’ve been cataloguing 500 series stuff recently and I guess I’ve just happened to land only Rev B units…
On this example an EEPROM swap is mentioned in the original sale thread to accomodate the Apple X850 ROM; I believe the Wikidot Mac Elite was the source. @herd also had some thoughts about reducing the ROM to fit in an unmodified card, but I haven't attempted such a thing yet.
Also, to...
Precisely, usually called the GIMO connector, and at least on the machines you mentioned it also provides an audio loopback. I think @jessenator reported the 7200's GIMO worked with video but without audio (and factory PC compatible models have been spotted with the two audio cables installed...
Very neat! Do you have a programmer which can dump the contents? TL866 II should work.
I still need to build proper photospreads of the YARC cards that came in mine, but shipping also removed one of the heatsinks (and it took nearly all the silkscreen with it- never seen something like that...
Perhaps something in your system folder requires a 32-bit clean ROM. The Rominator would’ve come flashed with one, and the stock SE/30’s isn’t. Maybe when testing in the other machine it was booting from a simpler ssw.
My (amateur) guess is the HDMI input is accepting a single TDMS link from DVI port which common passive adapters provide, but while still transmitting the EDID with full native resolution back to the host even though sufficient bandwidth isn't available. DisplayPort would do the same thing using...
If it’s the genuine Mac version (with the DVI port) the Mac firmware update utility should happily “update” it back to the Mac ROM. You’ll just need a second video card (or onboard) to interact with the utility.
Top download should contain what you need…...
I picked this card up here from @herd a week ago, and I've been quite happy with its capabilities.
I've had it installed in an MDD/FW800 with a Sonnet MDX/Duet 1.8 and its performance complements the processor speed very nicely.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the 'top' port works as a...
I'll have to post back when I have that machine open again, but EDO vs FPM would make sense. For some reason I photographed every internal component other than the RAM I was installing I guess :/
Normally PDS does this, though the PDS in the Blackbird is located behind the 16-bit 030 bus (adapted from 32-bit 040 bus at the CPU daughterboard interface.) Only the CPU, ROM and memory have full-speed 32-bit communication.
Perhaps it would still be possible to add a compatibility layer for...
FWIW, I have a 640CD (DOS) which will begin to emit a strange static hum a handful of minutes after reaching the desktop. Oddly, starting the PC environment immediately ceases the sound, and both Mac and PC sound work properly.
The previous owner had the 'start PC when Mac is started' option...
I would bet that’s the RasterOps 24MxQ. I’ve spent some time searching for evidence of its existence, but wasn’t even able to find pictures. I wouldn’t have expected a Nubus connector, but it could be there for physical stability.
Really a rare thing, and probably quite fast. Still, free to pm...
