    Macintosh II Motherboard Revisions

Ah yes! I, too, have referenced that power circuit. I'm glad that I have been able to contribute a little something back to it.

Introducing Tiny Transfer! A simple BinHex archiving and serial transfer tool

Got it. Well, the length of the file name is truncated to 31 characters before encoding in Tiny Transfer. So, that won't be a problem. That's also supported. Tiny Transfer supports AppleEvents in System 7 -- and thus should be able to process multiple files at a time. Prior to System 7...

    Macintosh II Motherboard Revisions

That's exactly what I thought when I was recapping/cleaning one of those older revisions. When I couldn't tone out the power-off side of the switch per the schematic, I ended up following the trace using the 'brush' method. That's where you connect one side of the multimeter to a metal brush and...

What is the true 'maximum' file name size a Mac application should handle?

Yeah, information like that is exactly what I'm looking for. Some other possible sources of longer filenames: * AU/X * HFS+ * CD-ROMs

Thank you. To me, it is like solving an old puzzle and sharing the solution with friends.

    Macintosh II Motherboard Revisions

(continued from previous) Power Off Oddity After pressing the rear power button on any of the Macintosh II line (II, IIx, IIcx, IIci, IIfx, etc), the computer turns on. Quick -- what happens if you then immediately hold down the rear power button? It turns off, right? Well, surprise surprise...

    Macintosh II Motherboard Revisions

(continued from previous) Macintosh II 820-0228-A Don't be confused by the 'A' on the end. Notice the part number has increased from 0163 to 0228. This 'A' board is newer than the 'B' board pictured above. This 'A' board is the most common. Aside: The words "Macintosh II" have moved from the...

    Macintosh II Motherboard Revisions

There are at least four production versions of the Macintosh II logic board that I'm aware of. I'd be interested if anyone has a board other than the ones listed below. Macintosh II 820-0163-02 I don't have this board. The next set of images is from Bruce at Branchus Creations. This is the...

What is the true 'maximum' file name size a Mac application should handle?

@olePigeon recently asked me about Tiny Transfer's file name limit. It got me to thinking about what the true file name limit is in classic Mac operating systems. The original file system (MFS) claims to handle file names up to 255 characters in length -- but, hey, the Finder doesn't support...

Introducing Tiny Transfer! A simple BinHex archiving and serial transfer tool

Hello @olePigeon Interesting. I have a bunch of questions. >> Does it know how to handle files that end up being longer than 32 characters? Tiny Transfer truncates all file names to 31 characters (Inside Macintosh IV page 90) for maximum compatibility. This occurs both when getting the file...

Macintosh IIcx - Won't Power Down, then Won't Power Up, and SuperMac ColorCard is bad?

I recently purchased a Macintosh IIcx where the seller indicated it wouldn't power up. I feared a battery bomb -- but I was really just after the SuperMac ColorCard with Accelerator daughterboard installed in the IIcx. I disassembled the IIcx and was pleasantly surprised to discover a really...

    Mac IIx NUBUS issues

I don't have any insights into that. However, I have two boards where NuBus was working and then failed. So, any diagnosis of NuBus failures is of great interest to me. I'm looking forward to other people's thoughts.

Seeking advice on final resolution with eBay seller.

Test the card. If it works, reach out to the seller and offer whatever amount would make you feel good every time you use the card. Basically, turn a bad story into a good one.

    Video cards for 630?

I have a number of LC / LC III video cards that I've successfully tested in the Quadra 630. I agree with the other posts that the IIsi and SE/30 cards definitely do not work.

Help With Mac IIsi - Fail after couple of minutes

Does the video go bad or does the entire machine crash? If you run something that plays music (or whatever), you might be able to tell if the computer is still running. Have you run MacTest Pro on the computer? It can test the chips and memory.

Introducing Tiny Transfer! A simple BinHex archiving and serial transfer tool

Updated Tiny Transfer attached. Fixed “Missing or incomplete footer” errors when the footer happens to fall on a boundary such this it is processed in parts rather than all at once. When sending via XModem, very compressible files can cause a delay before sending the next packet, because the...

    SuperMac Graphix 1.5

Well spotted! Yes, my setup involved a lot of jumper wires and breakout boards. Between that, and whatever the display board was originally matched for, it wouldn't surprise me if this is way off 75 ohm (which I believe is the Mac standard).

LC slot card. What is it?

Very interesting. I assumed Memory Plus engineered it because their name was in the ROM. Instead, Micro Conversions rebranded their work for the retailer.
