Problems with Quadra 610 ; Dead Board and Unusual PSU

It’s a fair assumption because the SE/30 will run normally without any caps at all, you just lose sound.

    My Mad B&W G3 Setup!

I tend to favour practical solutions and this is the first troubleshooting step I would try, but don’t let me stop you playing with Forth code if you’d rather understand what’s going on better @Snial :)

    My Mad B&W G3 Setup!

Actually, I meant after getting the CD to boot and installing a viable OS on the HDD, now would be the right moment to switch master and slave over.

    My Mad B&W G3 Setup!

Now that you've booted from the CD-ROM and set up the hard drive so you can boot from it, set the hard drive as master and the CD-ROM drive as slave. Booting from slave ATA devices was weird and badly supported around that time, so it may just be a firmware limitation or bug.

LOL I did this over 20 years ago (it’s still readable). Young me thanks you for your praise!

    My Mad B&W G3 Setup!

It would, but the cheap availability of SATA PCI cards that can be flashed for use on a Mac would be a far better option.

    My Mad B&W G3 Setup!

The secondary IDE channel goes back to the Paddington chip and doesn’t have the reliability problems of the primary, which uses a discrete chip. However, you drop down to 16.6 MBPS throughput and have to deal with the ‘OS being in the first 8GB’ limitation. However, it’s probably not a bad...

    Spot the difference - PowerBook G3 292mhz & 350mhz cpus.

Could you post a screenshot of Gauge Pro, with extra details turned on (Command-D)? I’m interested to see what bus speed and multiplier it’s reporting.

    Spot the difference - PowerBook G3 292mhz & 350mhz cpus.

I had a detailed look at your two CPU card photos, layering one on top of the other in Photoshop and lining them up carefully; then, turning the top layer on and off repeatedly and looking for differences. There are none. I did this for both sides of the card. One of the cards has this sticker...

    Spot the difference - PowerBook G3 292mhz & 350mhz cpus.

I don’t think the 2nd one is really running at 350MHz, based on: - examining both the bus speed and CPU multiplier PLL resistors in your photos, which are the same on both cards; - your benchmarks being almost the same; - having seen this quirk before on a Wallstreet. Is the 350MHz speed...

Haha @Snial, you’ve certainly paid attention to the details! Yes, RAM Doubler is enabled. I use this 520c chassis to test everything. The CPU currently in the machine for 48MB testing is 33MHz. I probably tested the 40MHz CPU in here a while back and moved it to a 540c chassis where it now...
