Ticking from these machines and drives with no disk inserted is normal, expected behavior. It should disappear once a disk is inserted.

Very interesting, I will need to see if I have any of those particular mice to try. Ultimately, yes, it’s a different feel than today’s machines because there is so much more real estate to cover. On the flip side, crazy fast mouse movement makes pinpoint control more of an issue.

As a complete anecdote, all my machines have spent the vast majority of their lives in temperature and humidity controlled conditions. I’ve yet to have a speaker go bad.

The proper course of action here is have them fly over, then book passage on an ocean liner back where they can take it with them.
