Top half of PowerBook passive matrix LCD gone dark after recap

I have the panel stripped apart on the bench right now, the top half of the picture is coming in and out intermittently. Often it'll start out dark, flicker back to normal, then flicker to dark again. You don't know how upset I am

Top half of PowerBook passive matrix LCD gone dark after recap

Where? Why would the problem progress, instead of being apparent right away?

Top half of PowerBook passive matrix LCD gone dark after recap

I just recapped a Sharp passive matrix display from a PowerBook 160, it worked fine for the first hour but then the top half of the screen started flickering and went dark. If I crank the contrast I can see the top half flickering in darkness. I think it could be a bad connection with one of the...

Wouldn't any other 150 µH inductor work? Those joints look like they're cold/not fluxed. They should be smooth and shiny

Flashing question mark floppy while booting

By now it's more than likely that the rubber bumpers inside the hard disk drive have turned to goo and the head assembly is stuck in place now. It happens after 30 years. Sorry

Picked up a few macs, don't know where to start

This is the soldering iron I've been using for about 2 years now -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097XX76V4 Throw away the solder they include. Use this instead -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KM1W7MW Throw away the tiny sponge too. Get a larger one. Yes, that iron is cheap. But I've successfully...

Look harder. It's almost always cracked/cold solder joints. Sometimes they are barely visible. Reflowing should fix it. If I recall correctly it's usually a crack on the the logic board cable socket.

Wanted: Radius Precision Color 8-24X ROM 2.0 (or other 2.0 ROM)

Everything is well and good with the 1.2.1 ROM in my IIcx. I just wanted to try upgrading the ROM in case the card finds itself in a younger machine down the road. But I will not use a newer ROM if it disables features.

Wanted: Radius Precision Color 8-24X ROM 2.0 (or other 2.0 ROM)

I tried Bolle's ROM in my Precision Color 8-24X, and it maxes out at 1024x768. Also doesn't show up in the QuickColor control panel from RadiusWare 2.2.1 so I assume acceleration is not working as-is (probably needs newer RadiusWare version). I will revert to the ROM 1.2.1 which came with my...
