here's an idea: endoscopy camera.
they (often? always? idk) have LEDs on them to light the way. slide that into one of the side vents and you'll get a clear picture!
some tips for people attempting this:
remove the glass from the backlight before soaping. the backlight has a bunch of layers that you really don't want to have to dry.
try and measure the old polarizer first. if you cut it too small, the shiny glass might be visible even with the bezel installed.
@Byrd This is the listing I used. you need to identify the degree of your current display and order that... post a picture of yours and we can figure it out
after much messing about I mostly succeeded in performing a polarizer replacement on this 2400c panel

the soap method @jmacz mentioned was indispensable... highly advise removing the backlight first though...not perfect, but sure beats a crackled smelly vinegar panel

i've been meaning to try that, but i'm missing several bits. namely ROM dumps and RAMDACs
there's no english manual, this was exclusively sold in japan.
