    Things that tempt me

You might need two cables and a bridge device. I've never seen a 25-pin SCSI to 68-pin SCSI LVD cable. You may also want to check the Avolusion site for System 6-7 drivers although I'm putting my faith in SilverLining d2.

I was given a trove of vintage Mac and BMUG materials

Lucky you! That HyperCard 2.3 package is really nice. I couldn't care less about shrinkwrap (although the little application is super) but there are some collectors of HyperCard who may very well be hyperventilating as I type.

    Things that tempt me

This thing is bad news. I don't need it. It will consume probably far too much electricity. It will be loud. It will far too big for my wants (my needs have ĺong been met). But I wants it, my Precious. It has SATA to SCSI. I could put in 16x SSDs and have a wonderful RAID-10 system for my B&W...

    Need help identifying this card

It very much depends on the refresh rate, I should think. It was almost certainly made with a specific monitor in mind from RasterOps. You could try an old 4:3 LCD monitor and see what luck you have. I like the ones from Eizo. Try looking up PDFs of old Mac magazines from 1988-1989 and look for...

    Need help identifying this card

That would have been one of the first cards for DTP-use on a 20+" monitor on a Mac II onwards. The RasterOps drivers can be found here: For System 6 https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/rasterops-108-driver For System 7.x https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/rasterops-graphics-system-software-168

Where to buy RAM for old Macs?

I reckon that this site is good place to find RAM for a TAM. There certainly were some sites online which sold RAM for old Macs but I think that they have closed down. Memoryx.com was my go-to site but that was 10 years' ago.

Checking interest for another run of IIFX 16MB ram modules

I might be interested. There is also a member in Switzerland who may be very interested.

Infocom Trinity - How to make a disk that is playable on Macintosh 512K

Just a thought: must the 400K floppy image be formatted in MFS to work on the 512K or will HFS also do?

    Motorola 68060 upgrade

I sometimes wonder if such topics would make for great Ph.D. theses: bringing old chipsets to life either through updating/rewriting old OSs or for new ones. The latter would require a massive investment in resources but the former might just be doable.

Never thought I'd see the day! (Studio Display 15-inch flat panel Rev A)

There's one on sale in Switzerland for CHF 150.—. https://www.tutti.ch/de/vi/basel/computer-zubehoer/komponenten-zubehoer/apple-studio-display-15-lcd-m4551/58317932 I was thinking about buying it so that I would have a DA-15 plus on an LCD screen but since I already have a Rev. 2 and the...

    Mac Mini 1.5GHz CPU question

What you say may very well be true. Everymac.com does give me info on 1500MHz Mac Mini G4s though via the link above. And it has been accurate so far.

    Mac Mini 1.5GHz CPU question

I always ask the seller of mac minis for the serial number before I even bid. I use this everymac.com to check the serial number: https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/ You may have difficulty getting a refund from eBay, given what you have done to the mac mini. If you just want a mac OS 9...

Networking an SE/30 (7.1) to an SE (6.0.8)

This site is good to know about too: http://www.applefool.com/se30/ If you have NICs in your two compact macs, then they can either be connected with a crossover cable or via a 10base T hub. The 10baseT hub/crossover cable is also a great way to get software on/off your compact mac. I have mine...

Best way to get software onto an iBook

They are sloooow though. You may have a problem with more modern thumb-drives or drives over 4GB. I don't use USB thumbdrives per se, rather SD-cards and an old SD-card adapter and it may be the adapter, now that I write these words.

Best way to get software onto an iBook

If I am correct, your 800MHz 14" iBook has FireWire and an ethernet port. 1. The option that I use is a Mac Mini G4 running Mac OS 9.2.2 (using the version from MTT on Macintosh Garden). Connect both your iBook & Mac Mini G4 to a hub or connect the two machines directly with a crossover cable...

MDD CPU in a Quicksilver: why won't it work?

I had long known that it wasn't possible but was not actually sure why. And it's nothing so simple as replacing a crystal for the bus-speed or getting a beefier PSU. Thanks for this.

MDD CPU in a Quicksilver: why won't it work?

What's the reason that a CPU from an MDD won't work in a Quicksilver or other G4? • Bus speed: 133MHz vs 167MHz? • Difference/incompatibility in the ROM? • Physical size: MDD card & heatsink won't fit? • Power draw: the power draw of dual 7455s is too much for the QS PSU? Or are there...

    1400c 166 slow CF?

If it fits into a PB1400, a 32GB 2½" IDE SSD might be another option, assuming the ATA-level isn't a problem.
