I have a feeling that I have posted this request before and apologies if I have.
Does anyone here have the driver for the Unity Digital FireWire CompactFlash Reader for Mac OS 9 or below?
I've found the download page on archive.org but it redirects to a 302 page.
I would appreciate it greatly...
When I was a student at university in the early 1990s, we had a lot of Pluses & SEs as well as LCs.
My standard apps & games that I ran on the compact macs then were:
a. SuperPaint 1.5
b. PageMaker 3.5
c. Word 4.0, MacWrite 5.0, MacWrite II
d. MacDraw, MacDraw II
e. Excel 2.1 & CricketGraph...
There is a Mac Pro going cheaply near me and it has two cards (which I assume are sound processing cards of some kind).
And while I don't need another Mac Pro, it might be worth getting for the cards alone.
What cards are these and what do they do?
Thanks.
Well done!
They are noisy beasts, and, of late, prone to failure. After only 30 years too.
@BadGoldEagle also did good work with the PSU of his Q950.

The beige Epson Zip-drive. I had one of these that I bought in Sofmap in Niigata-shi Japan in 1996.
This isn't mine, rather one I came across on a local auction site.

Clean the board and keep it until you find someone who needs experience in basic soldering. This will be good board to practice on: removing components, adding components and so on.
I was given a damaged Classic board for this very purpose and I can testify to their usefulness.
You should have a look at the Radius Rocket NuBus card. It was essentially a 68040 computer within a mac with NuBus slots (Mac II or Quadra). It's not SMP but it did allow two processors to be used by a user simultaneously back in the early 1990s albeit for different tasks.
I got OS 8.1 up & running on my IIfx and I'm pretty certain I followed Gamba's instructions.
It runs well with 32MB RAM.
My install is here: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-81-a-mac-iifx-or-maybe-just-a-68030
I haven't tried it on a IIci yet but it might work.
Lucky you. We eventually did a second line in. I managed to get us on the ADSL trial for the city of Dublin in 2001 and it was the beginning of modern Internet usage for me: 5-8KB/s downloads, no cost (during the trial) / low cost (monthly flat rate after that) and no fighting for the phone line.
Don't forget the fact that it was probably on a dial-up modem back then (14.4 maybe) and that you paid a local-call rate for every minute you were online. Not only that, but the phone-line was blocked and other people in the house would complain if you hogged the line too long. Bill users to get...
