Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I have a Powermac G5 2.0Ghz DP (Mid 2004) that I'd like to start using.
From what I have seen online, these things seem to die at astonishing rate, mostly from heat-death.
I don't really know what it will be used for as of yet, probably gaming. It is my PPC Mac OS X machine.
It stands in a...
I write SQL for a living (which is sort of code) and while I often find LLM-generated SQL impressive, you really need to know what the right answer is, because otherwise you can't judge how useful or correct the generated SQL is.
I have thought that LLMs might be great for someone who is...
Be warned, the power supplies on MDDs have not all aged well. Both of my MDDs have failed power supplies.
As for your question, is it primarily a Mac OS 9 machine, a Mac OS X machine or both?
As for accelerators, 1200MHz are fast for Mac OS 9 and while 1400MHz processors, they aren't that much...
Hi @joevt, I don't fully understand what you have posted. I shall have to go read up on ndrvs. If what you say is correct though, then this compressed version of the ROM should easily fit onto the 64KB ROM on my X850 Pro and the EEPROM will not need to be removed.
Thanks everyone for your...
I can't answer your exact question.
A lot of these SATA cards came out after Mac OS 9 had officially ended. It would not surprise me that Mac OS 9 support was nice to have but not essential.
I do have an old point to raise with regard to cards in general.
A lot of these cards are getting on in...
I have an X850 Pro AGP card that I intend flashing for my G5 2.0DP.
@dosdude1 (of this parish) made an excellent video [1] and the process seems straightforward enough.
Now, the EEPROM on the X850 Pro, it seems, is 64K and the X850 XT ROM for it is 128K.
In the video, he replaces the EEPROM with...
If I remember correctly, Adobe was the only company to make use of the multi-processors in their software. You could put them to work with Premiere and digitise VCR tapes.
You could turn your 9600 MP into a server for your older Macs.
Personally, it would make a great machine for Civilization or...
I second @cheesestraws, eBay is a good suggestion.
Clean up the Macintosh, get it to work and take lots of professional quality photos of it both inside & out to anticipate the questions that will come. Pack it well and prepare it to be shipped to be shipped overseas.
Then watch eBay and...
@sircabulon I made up an Excel file some years ago with network games for the Mac.

First Class too!
Did you get an AEK in its original box?
@cheesestraws: if you'd like photos of Swiss trains & stations, I can take some for you. We have no car and I am out & about on Swiss trains.
You could try the PCI cards with the RTL8169S chipset on it.
These are gigabit ethernet cards. I have one in my B&W G3.
I don't know if the driver works below Mac OS 8.6 though.

This plastic is so strong that when my brother had a car accident some decades ago, his Wallstreet was propelled from the backseat, through the front windscreen and was left unscathed and working. I have it now.
