Absolutely they were. Some of them have copper heatsinks. Copper was/is expensive and it was a lot of copper.

Very different internal layout to my B&W G3! The heatsink also seems like it'd be mighty close to the HD when the case is closed! Still, whatever happens, you can still shave in front of it 😁 !

The weird thing is that is Jobs era and they made it really loud. First rule of quiet ventilation is to keep the air velocity low, which means large duct cross sections and fans to get the same volume flow with lower speed, not screaming little 40mm fans!

They must have known that, so they must have had some priority higher than noise and heat. Something like having to fit more in the case (e.g. that huge heatsink) without any compromise on features like the number of slots and disk bays.
