reading through that thread, might be worth seeing if you can find someone stateside to do the BGA repair?
2 names that come to mind are dosdude1 - https://doslabelectronics.com/repair
or maybe rossman repair group?
No idea what the cost would be, but might end up being cheaper than shipping...
this is awesome! definitely in for one whenever they do be come available for sale(assuming the price is closer to the 80 a board than the 500 a board. probably ~$150-ish is the upper end of what I'd pay?)
Optical drive on those is SCSI, right? you could replace that with a bluescsi
Or, might be able to replace the internal SCSI ribbon cable with a dual connector one and put a bluescsi internally there somewhere, but might be a pain
db25 bluescsi might be the best bet for that if you wanted to...
BlueSCSI
to MicroSD to M.2
to an M.2 to Sata adapter

if you end up needing some 800k floppy disks with a system image on them to get started, i'm willing to make...
(for those without a facebook, screenshot of listing)
Selling a classic Apple Macintosh Plus (Model M0001A). This machine does power on, but it does NOT come with the power cord, so you’ll need to supply your own to run it. Condition Notes: • Powers on ✔️ • No power cord included ❌...
Doesn't appear to have a keyboard or mouse either, which for the 128, 512, and plus, are propritary(though i believe you can get/make adapters?)
Personally I'd keep an eye out for an SE as a 1st compact mac, uses an ADB keyboard/mouse which are much more common.
