I will try this tonight. Since the OS 9.1 CD is read-only, I'll have to copy drive setup from the CD, patch it on another mac, and then put it on a floppy disk...
That's a great deal! :) If it were me I would set it up as some sort of server, maybe to host files or a small website. That's a great way to make old macs useful if you're not going to be using them as your main machine. :)
I found an abandoned iMac G3 at work (indigo, in beautiful condition) and I booted it up to Tiger. It says there is an airport card installed, and it has the airport logo in the menubar, but it couldn't find any wireless networks even though there were several networks within 30 feet of the...
Awesome! Now - I know I said I didn't need to connect it to the internet, and I don't, but just out of curiosity, is there a way to do that (using a DSL connection, not dial-up). :)
Yes, the disk is a retail version of 9.1. I am going to try again with a Mac OS 8 CD, and if that doesn't work I'll probably just buy a new hard drive. The seller who sold me the hard drive gave me a full refund anyways so if I spend $20 on a new one I won't be losing any money!
I have a Power Mac 8500 that has had a dead hard drive for the last year. I finally got around to ordering a replacement hard drive on eBay (a whopping 700 MB 50-pin internal SCSI), and I installed it in my 8500.
The first problem arose when I tried to boot from a System 7.5.3 disk - the CD...
It will get worse, I use to have a 17" Studio Display (CRT) and the snap/pop would happen every few days, but after a few weeks of that it started to do it as often as every 5 minutes, rendering it unusable. :-/ The problem is the flyback transformer as an earlier poster said. You can repair...
Wow, nice work!
Could you post a tutorial for how you enabled higher resolutions for your 8500? I have one as well and OS 9 would look awesome on a Cinema Display. :) Also, what kinds of changes would I need to make for it to work with 1680 x 1050? That's a lot of questions, I know. :-x
I have a PB 180 that I want to connect to another computer. It does not need to connect to the internet; I simply need a way to quickly transfer files from one machine to the other. What kind of cable/software do I need?
A few months ago, I found a dual processor Power Mac G5 and took it home. Unfortunately, the liquid cooling unit leaked and destroyed the motherboard and processors. It's also missing a couple of fans and a hard drive. I want to fix it, but I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money on it...
