As @Byrd stated, there are some fixes posted on Cubeowner. My button was a little sensitive, so I put Kapton tape around the circumference around the button help with that.

May I ask, why are you downgrading? Are you looking for a quieter machine?

Have you tried booting up in safe mode by holding down the shift? It could be an incompatibility with a system extension.

They may not be as rare as you think. I used a slot loading superdrive. The model is UJ-85J-C which are available on EBay. I also completed a replacement SSD and upgraded the CPU to 1.6Ghz. I documented what I did for the SSD on another website. I could repost it here if there is interest.
