    Zip drive and Mac Plus

Well, I spoke too soon. After a full shutdown and restart, I am not much further along. I can run Iomega Guest, and that will let me see the Iomega disk, or SCSI probe--mount. But, after normal start-up, and then insertion of the Zip disk, it is not mounted. Zip tools cannot be installed with...

    Zip drive and Mac Plus

Well, I tried to install 4.2 Zip Tools but it could not be installed on 6.0.8, apparently. However, I noted that there was a newer version of Iomega Driver in the Systems Folder, so I replaced it with the one that came bundled with the Installer. That appears to have worked. The 2 disks I...

    Zip drive and Mac Plus

Actually, no disk could be initialized. I partitioned one at 100% MAC and that at least made it so I could read and write to it. The link you sent has two files. Do I need both? steve

    Zip drive and Mac Plus

Well it is in the System Folder of the Mac Plus. Not sure how to tell if it is "working". Does an icon show up when you boot of something?

    Zip drive and Mac Plus

Steve, Great instructions. Everything went well until I tried to initialize the disk. The program sees the drive, but I get this message prior to trying to initialize: "The disk is uninitialized, or, its partician map has become invalid". When I go ahead and try to initialize, I get this...

    Zip drive and Mac Plus

Yes. I can use the 3.5" floppy disk drive, or, can send files from my Powerbook G3 via the serial port to the Mac Plus. The latter is how I got the 4.2 driver and put it in the System Folder of the Plus. steve

    Zip drive and Mac Plus

I purchased the disks on eBay. And of course since the drive does not show up on my desktop, I cannot reformat the disks. With the disk out, should the Zip drive icon show up on the desktop?

    Zip drive and Mac Plus

I recently got a ZIP drive 100, and I cannot get it to mount. Here is the setup. Mac Plus SCSI connector to Zip drive. Set to ID 6, and termination switch turned ON (also tried it with termination switch OFF). Second connector on Zip to my external SCSI HDD (a POWERDrive 40 MB drive). Note that...

Mac Plus, ZIP, "other computer", ZIP, file transfer

Alright I have made a lot of progress. First, PowerBook to Mac Plus transfers seem fine. I can send text files and such, but there may be a problem with more complex file (programs see below). The other thing I did is successfully modify Apache on my modern Mac so that I can exchange files...

Mac Plus, ZIP, "other computer", ZIP, file transfer

While thinking about this, I tried the following: I did a Custom install from the 4 disk set, and installed Responder and AppleShare. Then, when I brought up the Chooser, AppleShare was there. Clicked it, and the G3 showed up, I selected "guest", and there was my G3 shared folder. And I could...

Mac Plus, ZIP, "other computer", ZIP, file transfer

I have seen references to that. I still do not understand why I have it in the System Folder but the Chooser never seems to see it. That is the question of the hour/day/week! steve

No, AppleShare Prep is not in the System Folder. Can that be emailed?

Mac Plus, ZIP, "other computer", ZIP, file transfer

I guess I don't know how to do a clean install. I put a dummy text file in my system folder, and then a re-install of 6.0.8 using the original disks. When done, that file was still present, and although I did add a few printers to see if it was taking them, the system files had the same dates...
