Seems to not matter anyways, tried booting my MDD and the 1,42 GHz dual CPU (overclocked to 1,58) appears to be dead. Completely, from one wday to the other.
My dual 1,08 (originally 867mhz) works....
I completely get the 32 bit limitation. But why is the G4 then limited to 2 instead of 4GB?
A Pentium 4 System could also use 4GB RAM. So could 32 bit Arm
Question is basically explained in the title.
I know that 2GB is plenty for the old Software running on my MDD. But just like overclocking the CPUs to 1.6GHz from 1.4.... Like it's fun to tinker, and i guess we can all agree with that.
I currently have two 1GB DDR 400 crucial gamingX sticks...
I've personally never seen a Rage 128 without at least a heat sink. Like not even a picture of one.
Sone do have tiny heat sinks with a fan, some have bigger heatsinks without etc.
Maybe try to add a heatsink.
Also they can behave odd. I have a rage 128 (with a fan) that only works when...
Hey,
I have a Dual 1080MHz mdd G4. By upgrading the FSB from 133 to 167MHz to get that speed, i either broke the onboard LAN Adapter or it's not compatible with the higher bus speed.
So i paid 20€ for a sealed, new in box Intel Dual LAN Networking card and it ran pretty fine, great...
I wasn't able to find the jumper settings for the 133MHz Bus...
No but Seriously, the work on the CPU card seems fine, i admit it looks a bit dodgy on the Mainboard sadly...
The System itself works absolutely stable though, no other issue besides network connections.
I would say i probably...
Sooo...
yesterday i removed the two resistors on the cpu and mainboard that limited the Bus speed on my 867 dual MDD i got for free. I was surprised that it all went well even though i am bad at soldering and used a way too large solder iron.
I even found some faster DDR1 memory in my broken...
So the Geforce 2MX i ordered (couldnt find another GPU for it for a reasonable price, my first ever NVIDIA card lol) arrived today and now the second G4 i got works perfectly fine.
It was really the GPU that couldnt load graphics mode, just like a Text mode for open Firmware or the boot picker...
I already tried restting everything, PRAM battery is not necessary, i know, but it didn't made a difference.
No my knowledge about open Firmware is really limited.
But i will try the ram swapping again in the evening
Also thanks a lot to everyone
The powerplug thing only occurs on the first one. The second one has a better looking psu (it looks higher quality but i dunno, i am mostly dealing with modern Hardware besides the G4s).
Nope, they are both sawtooth AGP models
So i tried with a 400MHz G4 in thr first one and a 450mhz one aswell as a 1.4GHz Encore St card in the second one. The sonnet card loads the Black screen faster ^^
I swapped multiple ram Modules in the first one. In the second one i just left thr 512mb it came with.
But i have about 12 Modules...
So,
I have now two Powermac G4 AGPs,
I have a harddrive with Tiger and OS9.2.2 installed and after fiddling around... Both wont Boot. At all.
The first from which i took the Hard drive and the GPU was a bit glitchy for a while and was buggy booting the OS, it only booted one time, couldnt...
