Glad it worked out. Yes, these passive (especially the grayscale) screens have noticeable artifacts that range from bad to horrendous depending on your contrast adjustments. This is normal, and imho part of the charm.
I have one of these MicroMac MultiSpeed cards and I was able to bump it from 25MHz to 33Mhz. It refused to run at 40MHz. Never tried to go above 16MB of RAM. If I remember correctly, Speedometer clocked it at roughly twice the speed of an SE/30 (which makes sense at 33MHz).
The twist and snip methods rely on the pads being solidly attached. If there’s already damage to the pads, they absolutely can come off when shearing forces are applied. I would say the snip method is probably safer as long as you’re cutting parallel to the leads (as opposed to perpendicular...
These look great! This would have been a much better design for the original adapter. The Daystar straight adapter also provides very poor support for the card. It's mainly held up by the speaker wire, which is an odd design choice. Oh, and to remove the card, you have to remove the whole...
This is nuts, I don't think I've ever seen this. Even googling, the picture of this adapter does not come up anywhere.
This is terrific news! The IIx is much more rare than the Mac II (or even IIfx), which is probably the reason the original adapters for these are basically unobtanium. I'm...
Good call! I actually have three but they are all the same (oldest?) version - the one with the extra cache card on the back. My version definitely looks taller in the pictures. I guess I knew there were multiple versions but I didn't realize they were different sizes. I actually thought...
So here's a weird one. I finally found a Daystar IIx adapter (pretty elusive, that one). I attach a Turbo 040, open up the IIx, aaand... it won't fit!! The card is too tall, i.e. the post that holds up the drive tray is in the way. I need maybe extra 5-7mm. This seems odd since the Turbo...
I use hot air almost exclusively for cap removal and I’ve not experienced this issue, but I would suspect that your technique needs some adjustment.
Be patient and don't pull on the cap. Instead, gently nudge it to see if it's loose. Only lift it off once the solder is completely melted. It...
Multimeter won’t help. I would inspect carefully to make sure you don’t have damaged or bent pins. I see one in the picture that doesn’t look quite right, but it’s hard to make out.
