There is an Apple extension from 1996 (size: 16kb), which is called 'Trackpad Climate Control' which can be installed:
"The extension works only with the PowerBook 190, PB 1400 and PB Duo 2300"
After a few years I took out this beautiful Powerbook again. Of course it didn't work, even with a second power supply. After many resets it booted up, but with video problems.
First of all, I replaced the pram battery with a new self-made one. Now it starts every time when I press the reset...
BTW:
I have 2 of these still working PB 540c with
PCMCIA modules Rev. B and Rev. C and both Powerbooks with SCSI2CF adapters inside. It would never come in my mind to demand such excessive prices.
As I mentioned in an old thread I found out, that Rev. B module works fine with special CF-cards...
I have a similar problem when I started one of my PB 540c today after 2 years:
The upper half of the screen is disturbed by vertical stripes.
Any hints please?

I know now, as I bought some PB 1400 speakers....
I had too many PowerBooks before (more than 30), so I was not able to leave them all in open position. I sold half of them 5 years...
Three 1400 PowerBooks. I have several PBs 5x0 too but I stored them vertical, so they are still ok.
I always took care of the PRAM batteries and removed or replaced them with new self built ones, but I didn't think about the plastics. :-(
