Solving the Powerbook G3 hinge issues: aftermarket hinges

I have my Lombard, which has a snapped hinge on one side, to the point where it also has slightly damaged the plastic top cover. I wouldn't mind borrowing it to you guys, but I really don't want to sell it, as it was my first vintage classic Mac. I also have a Wallstreet (or PDQ?) on which the...

Solving the Powerbook G3 hinge issues: aftermarket hinges

Good suggestion! I won't keep my hopes up however, manufacturing plastics is a lot less involved than manufacturing metal components, especially the kind that is supposed to withstand high stress levels like hinges. I guess I could try and contact PCBWay as well, since I think they also...

Solving the Powerbook G3 hinge issues: aftermarket hinges

So am I. The thing is, modelling the parts is easy. It's difficult to find something financially feasible that's able to machine parts with a complex shape, yet also high tensile strength.

Solving the Powerbook G3 hinge issues: aftermarket hinges

I'm afraid not. I haven't been able to find a way to manufacture them.

    M2785 rebuild

Did you manage to put it back together again afterwards, or was the case too damaged?

    M2785 rebuild

Thanks, but that's a bit outside of my budget. I'll keep it in mind though.

    M2785 rebuild

Why's that? I've done multiple desktop PSUs, so I can't see why doing a laptop one should be an issue?

    M2785 rebuild

Hi folks, My Powerbook 5300CE's AC adapter just kicked the bucket. It's outputting random voltages, none of them even getting close to the required voltage to power the machine. I was therefore wondering if anyone has attempted to rebuild one of these (I assume it requires a recap), and what is...

Solving the Powerbook G3 hinge issues: aftermarket hinges

Hi guys, I've had enough. After ages looking around for good "for parts" machines to replace my PDQ and Lombard hinges, I have given up. There just aren't any left where I live for a reasonable price. Naturally, the only reasonable thing to do is to manufacture my own replacements. I'll create...

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet replace CCFL with LED strip

I wanna try this out on my Lombard. The display's almost unreadable right now. My Titanium G4 is also going Barbie (AKA pink). Any advice for either machine?

    Powerbook G3 screen hinges

That's why we need to somehow manufacture upgrades. PCBWay does machining as well, but I haven't tried it out yet...

    Powerbook G3 screen hinges

Those posts aren't the parts that break though. It's the part connected to the display frame which slides across the posts which breaks.

Awesome! I didn't know those were compatible...

    Powerbook G3 screen hinges

Hi guys, I am the proud owner of a Lombard and a PDQ. Sadly, the PDQ had snapped hinges when I bought it(which they're famous for, so not entirely unexpected), but weirdly so did the Lombard. As I'm unable to find replacements, and I'd rather not destroy a working machine to fix another, I was...

Molex power for GPU on Powermac G5 AGP

Hi guys, I wanted to stick a flashed 7800GS into my Powermac G5 AGP, but it needs molex power. Do I just need to run a long splitter from the DVD drive, or is there a hidden power port on the motherboard somewhere?
