Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

Thanks for all your suggestions regarding the drive - I had the faint hope that drive would do the job, but maybe it is worth looking into the scsi2sd. The keyboard is a Datadesk Mac 101. I'm not too knowledgable about keyboards, but It is actually quite nice to type on. And the key switches

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

Hi Nathanplus, thanks for your reply. I have scanned the drive using Lido, and it does come up with bad sectors and it also fails to reassign them, which suggests a deeper issue.  Formatting and initializing the drive using Lido completes successfully, but I get the same issue when trying to...

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

To give a final (maybe) update on my Mac Plus - I'm happy to say that with the great help of cheesestraws providing boot disks, as well as a new floppy gear from Italy, it's now running nicely! With the help of a raspberry pi 'round the back, allowing me to use a standard USB mouse: The...

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

That would be wonderful - Thanks again! It was running system 6.0.8, and seeing as the machine only has 2.5 MB of RAM, System 7 would probably be a stretch anyway. My hope is that having the boot disk will allow me to see if the SCSI drive is mountable - then I can go from there.

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

In an effort to archive the files of the SCSI drive, I connected it up to my G4. This worked well and I was able to copy over all the files. However, connecting it back to Mac Plus resulted in a boot failure - I just get a solid floppy.  It seems like connecting it up to the G4 running OS9 has...

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

So the machine is up and running nicely. Managed to build a mouse using the Raspberry Pi and the code here (https://hackaday.com/2017/01/23/bring-a-modern-mouse-to-an-atari-st/). I'd quite like to upgrade to System 7 on the SCSI. What's the best way of going about getting System 7 installed on...

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

It did indeed have an operating system on it, so I should be good to go without a boot floppy.  Thanks again for the offer. If the hard drive gives up the ghost, I may come running. That device looks perfect - great build. I'll have a rummage around to see if I have one of those joysticks.

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

It lives!.... I finally got the damn thing to boot.  Switching around and/or cleaning the RAM chips seemed to do the trick in the end. The hard drive seems to function well. Now all I need to do is find a mouse - I'm thinking I might DIY something like...

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

WIll do.  I actually had some luck with the SCSI hard drive this evening - after taking off the enclosure, it magically started spinning.  Starting up the HD followed by the Plus lead to a Happy Mac... wonderful! Of course - the story isn't over yet. The Plus starts to boot, I hear plenty of...

That would be fantastic! Please, whenever you have time. More than happy to cover postage. I'm not too sure about operating system - System 7 should work well on this machine right?

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

Thanks for your reply.  Yes, it seems like making my own boot disk wouldn't be possible since the Plus is the only machine I have (besides a PowerMac G4). I'm in the UK at the moment.

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

To update on this problem: It seems like it was the ROM.  Not having my own EEPROM programmer, I built one with an Arduino following this great tutorial (see youtube link below).  Reading the ROMs revealed som flipped bits on the 3420342a LO-ROM.  Using the ROM images found here...

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

Still no luck with the Mac Plus - bong, bong, bong. I have gone over the AB again, reflowing everything that looks suspect. Voltages still look good at the floppy port. I don't really have the kit to go poking around on the LB, but this may be what is necessary for this machine.  There are a...

Macintosh Plus (M0001AP) boot chime loop

The sound I am hearing is not a ticking, just a the bong over and over again.  I have reflowed J1 with fresh solder and cleaned the contacts. Still the same issue.  The issue seems similar to that mentioned here - where 'The problems was the two ROMs on the logic board and the JFET Q5 on the...
