PowerBook 180 - cleaning, restoration, and lots of testing

I eventually found the diskette images and used Basilisk II to install the OS on there and I wrote a modem diskette.

PowerBook 180 - cleaning, restoration, and lots of testing

Does anyone know where I can find the PowerBook 180 diskettes? I'd like to use images of the diskettes on Basilisk II and do the install on a hard drive image and copy that over to my 2GB SD card for the BlueSCSI V2 w/ Wi-Fi I'm planning on getting in the future.

PowerBook 180 - cleaning, restoration, and lots of testing

My system doesn't have a main battery installed (thankfully). The only one that's there is the PRAM battery. Speaking of which, is that type of battery rechargeable or a standard one?

PowerBook 180 - cleaning, restoration, and lots of testing

Well, the display does have the tunnelvision issues after running it for about 20 minutes, give or take. I replaced the one cap on the inverter board, the cap on the trackball, all but one in the charger (3A model), and the floppy drive's upper board cap since they were old and one of them had a...

Finally, a 180 with no tunnel vision:)

Mine is developing the tunnel vision, unfortunately. And the floppy drive needs a cleaning and a new cap.

PowerBook 180 - cleaning, restoration, and lots of testing

Got my first ever 68K PowerBook, the greyscale 180 with 14MB RAM, 68030-33 w/ 68882 FPU (integrated) and working floppy drive. Presently, it has no hard drive and the trackball needs a deep cleaning since it's not 100% perfect. I got the system from shopgoodwill.com which came with the charger...

Quadra 605 adventures: repair, testing, and upgrades

And it gets worse. The TI 343S0135-01 A chip has broken legs and the pads are too small to solder wire to as legs.

Quadra 605 adventures: repair, testing, and upgrades

I recapped the system and no dice. RAM installed/no RAM installed - COD VRAM switched around and one module swapped - COD SCSI drive and FDD installed/removed - COD ADB anything connected/disconnected - COD CPU resocketed - COD I fixed some traces that were sketchy and I'm not sure if I...

Quadra 605 adventures: repair, testing, and upgrades

I got myself another 68K Macintosh, because I find them fun to work on. This time, it's a Macintosh Quadra 605 with a Motorola XC68LC040RC25B (25MHz w/o FPU), 36MB RAM, 160MB HDD, 1.44MB FDD (manual-injection), 512KB VRAM, and the only issue it has is the death chime and no video. I wired a...

Sourcing Legit MC68882 FPUs - Data

I determined the problem to be crud on the pins. Cleaned them off and the FPU works. Worth the $20 from eBay.

Sourcing Legit MC68882 FPUs - Data

MC68882NF33A 1C12R QETT9215 I cannot tell if this is real or fake as the diagnostics program says FPU test failed. Macintosh Performa 450 with a 68030-25.

Macintosh Classic M1420 - floppy not writing or formatting diskettes

I recapped the floppy drive and it still won't write or format diskettes. I also installed a socket for the SWIM chip, but the floppy drive is not longer detected. Even the FloppyEmu (internally or externally) won't get detected either, but the drives receive power.

Macintosh Classic M1420 - floppy not writing or formatting diskettes

Good evening, I got a Macintosh Classic M1420 back in mid-June to use it for writing novels and scripts (movies, TV shows, etc) and either print them (need to replace every capacitor for the StyleWriter printer) or save to diskettes and copy them to my main laptop to view them while away from...
