What to buy LC475 or Performa 630

I'd recommend the 475. I used to have a few, a couple of which I donated to a righteous cause (@max1zzz). They all had various issues that I don't think were inherent to the model itself. I'm left with my Performa 630 as one of the latest model 68k machines. As others have said, the plastics are...

    Why do capacitors leak?

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but it appeared in my recommended 'similar threads' list. I'm currently waiting for a shipment of caps to fix the PSU in a Power Mac G4 MDD, and I speculate that the biggest contributor to failure in PSUs is heat. The motherboard caps still seem fine, but...

Ambrosia Software legacy continues with Decoder Ring

This is the first I’d heard of this, so thank you for explaining in such detail. It’s also really disappointing to hear, as I may (just) live long enough for this to be an annoyance. It’s a different issue, but it reminds me of the slight controversy around the most recent game consoles. If I...

Ambrosia Software legacy continues with Decoder Ring

That’s a neat little tool you linked to. Thanks! And yes, good point about BSNG. It had slipped my mind, but that’s the most likely avenue given that the games themselves are being used on classic Mac OS.

Ambrosia Software legacy continues with Decoder Ring

From what I can tell, the Mac (only?) version of DecoderRing is an Intel-native application that runs under Rosetta on Apple Silicon Macs. I wonder what will happen when we lose access to Rosetta given this news...

    Making a 1-bit game engine

Many thanks for those responses. It’s helpful to know what your setup and approach are, and the Joshua Stein videos seem like an excellent resource. I’ll keep an eye out on your development journey, and I hope your son is as impressed with your efforts as some of us are! Here’s a link to the...

    Making a 1-bit game engine

This is great to see, @feeef, and it’s clear this has been a labour of love. Having read your Tinker Different post as well, it’s impressive the amount of work you’ve gone to in order to familiarise yourself with the Mac Toolbox in purchasing the Inside Macintosh books, etc. I’ve just started...

    Bootable disk creation

I must have a pretty early model ROMinator II, because instead of the useful disk utilities described on Steve’s website, I’ve got a system folder and a bunch of games strewn about in a window. It would have been nice to have the patched version of HD SC Setup, SDSIProbe, and ResEdit. It’s not a...

    Bootable disk creation

Ah yes, cheers. Just looking at the spec page on bigmessowires’s site. I’d forgotten about the bootable ROM image. I didn’t originally see the utility of the 32-bit clean aspect, as I’ve always just used Mode32 once a system was up and running. I can see the utility of HD20 support if ever I...

    Bootable disk creation

I have a ROMinator II, but don’t really know what to do with it. What’s the benefit of having it in, say, a IIx? I messed about with it in an SE/30 once, but with the default setup on the ROMinator, I didn’t really know what its utility was. I also don’t have a way of editing the ROMinator, as I...

    Bootable disk creation

I'm digging up this thread simply to thank @gpz500 for this recommendation. It's transformed my experience of trying to format tricky SCSI drives. Booting from a RAMDisk and being able to swap in an additional floppy on my FloppyEmu is such a great solution.

    FloppyEMU HD20.dsk issues on SE

Thank you so much for this recommendation. 👏 The 'file not contiguous' error was so infuriating. This solution worked!

    Jason's Macintosh Museum

Thanks. I’m perhaps most proud of the Spacestation Pheta video, as the creator agreed to be interviewed for it. I also did the intro animation frame by frame.

    Jason's Macintosh Museum

Thanks for your interest. I’d describe the channel as ‘humble’ and ‘dormant’. 😜 Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/@onceandfuturetech

    Jason's Macintosh Museum

I really miss this guy’s video uploads. He had such chill vibes. Hope things are going well for him. As someone who has fallen off the YouTube wagon myself, I can see how you just get to a stage where other things take priority or become more of a focus.
