Oh yes, I should have mentioned that. Other than the bars, it seems to boot up and behave normally. I haven't tested running applications, but I am able to fully boot, the mouse pointer works, I can select menus, etc., and then perform a full "soft" shutdown.

Here are some photos of the top of the board. The first photo is of the entire thing and the subsequent photos are concentrated to the part of the board where the magic smoke came out (on the underside.) Looking again, I'm still not seeing much in terms of what I would consider capacitor...

I can get pictures of it as well, if that would be useful. But as far as I can tell it looks immaculate. As I said, the previous owner recapped the board. But I haven't seen any evidence on the top side of damage from previously capacitor leakage, although I'll definitely take another look.
