Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

I'd like to throw in my interest here. I'm thinking I probably need 4 of them, with shipping to the USA. I already have a Shiva bridge between a localtalk segment in the back room and the rest of my ethernet/wifi LAN... but I do have some lonely Macs without ethernet that live in different...

    Newton Documentary

I just wanted to say this movie was great, and by coincidence a friend donated a working OMP a few days after I watched it, so now I finally get to explore this world first hand. And thanks to the movie, I've signed up with Be The Match and sent off my swab card as well.

Has anyone actually installed a 55/65xx board in a pre-PCI Mac?

I have an empty 580 shell, a 5260, and a 5500/225. Would it help for me to swap boards around and see what works, or look for psu voltages?

    Setting up a multiple boot system (6,7 & 8) on a SE/30 with a clean ROM

You can always do the bless/unbless trick to have multiple System folders on one partition. I have an external recovery drive set up that way so I can pre-select a certain System version to boot before I hook it up to the computer in question.

    PCI cards for PM5500?

So, I have a 5500/225 that I decided to bling out with all the ports, because why not. External video out, AV in, and the TV tuner are all on the way for pretty darn cheap. I have a CS ethernet card, so that's already taken care of. But after that, I still have the right angle PCI slot staring...

Shiva, Asante ... what is a good Appletalk to Ethernet bridge

Shivas are powerful and complicated, definitely designed for corporate/education networks with network engineers who know what they're doing. I've found it easy to foul up my entire network just trying to figure everything out. When you get them to work, everything is seamless and transparent...

Can I use one of these SCSI adapters on the internal SCSI bus?

I'm curious if anyone here has direct experience with SCA drives and on what systems. I have had limited success with SCA (80-pin) drives in my setups, except on relatively recent (G3 era) systems. The first obstacle is that they have no circuitry for termination on the drives - they are...

DB25 switchbox to share SCSI devices between computers ?

I haven't done this, but as long as the box connects all the lines through and isn't making any assumptions about unused pins on serial or parallel, I don't see why it wouldn't work. PS- To be on the safe side, I think I'd make sure all devices were off before switching back and forth.

SE/30: Micron Xceed Video Card, DB-15 to VGA

FYI, that's just referring to the VGA standard horizontal scan rate, which allows 640x480 at a 60Hz vertical refresh rate. By comparison, NTSC composite/S-video/etc is 15kHz, which is why TVs can only refresh alternating scanlines at 60Hz and have a 30Hz full frame refresh rate for a similar...

    SE with no sound

Ditto. Plenty of SE/30 issues, Classic issues, LCs, etc. No issues with SEs so far.

LC 475 discontinued May 1994 but mines made in 1/95 ?

According to LEM, "LC 475 introduced 1993.10.21 at $900; discontinued 1996.07.15"

    Centris 650 and SCSI2SD V5.1 query

That's right. The trick will be getting it partitioned/formatted for the Mac, which becomes much harder if you don't have Apple's utility available. Come to think of it, prepping the drive might even be possible with fancy tricks using an emulator on a PC, but since I don't have a SCSI2SD it's...

    Centris 650 and SCSI2SD V5.1 query

It is possible, if you can get the drive formatted - and that will depend upon whether you have HD setup or drive setup somewhere on your existing HD. Physically, you should have a spare spot on the SCSI ribbon cable to hook it up where the internal CD would go. You'll also need an...

Macintosh Plus won't boot from rare HDD

The lack of proper driver still doesn't explain the bars when just the cable itself is attached. But I also don't think the cable is the issue, especially since it worked on the other Mac. I just don't know if the lack of termination even with only an open cable plugged in could cause that or...
