Trying to repair a Classic II

I had no opportunity of changing anything, I've been "fighting" depression for some months, but I'm much better now. Anyway, a friend of mine sent me a Classic Logic Board for re-cap (checkered board screen) an as I have no Classic had to open my Classic 2 to do the tests. After this months the...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Thanks again, those I didn't change then, I'll try to find the bad one but this time I'll change all I can identify. I imagine that the closest to a hot part (those near a dissipator) are more probable suspects. Off topic-> I never get email notifications whenever there is a new post, Is...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Thanks, that's a good idea, I replaced all the bigger semiconductors but maybe I got one defective or the termal grease was not good enough

Trying to repair a Classic II

Hi! Sorry for refloating this old thread but that Classic II I recapped has developed a new issue... I f you use it for a short time, all is ok, but when you left it on for a long time (several hours) the screen brightnes increases A LOT,  I mean, it goes almost completely white. If I adjust it...

    Saving the SE and Plus

I've succesfully made boot floppies with a USB floppy drive attached to a G5 running Leopard, it won't work for 800k or 400k ones but got me moving with some reinstalls. I had once a LC board as corroded as that SE and I cleaned it to try to fix it, but when I saw how little was left of the...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Thanks guys for your help and support! I've done a little video and uploaded it to my youtube channel, nothing fancy but anyway I link it here in case you want to watch it... Next on the list a very weird acting SE/30, I'll open a thread soon.

Trying to repair a Classic II

Hi! This morning my last parts arrived so after work I've spent my afternoon replacing components in the analog board. I first started replacing the power transistors, rectifier bridge, that big diode near the transformer, regulator and optoisolator. Well... it really gone first the big cap at...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Finally I removed the board monday, instead of saturday... we had to deal at home with an issue with one vitro ceramic hob and that gone first (it burn itself). Anyway monday was holydays here so no problem at all. I did found a floppy stuck inside the drive.   The CRT was already...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Ahhh... ok that explains it. I can't order the capacitors until I dissasemble the board (I know the values, but I want to measure the size and the pads distance)  so I'll order the optoisolator my actual board has. One question: The white plastic that covers the solder side of the Analog Board...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Thanks to everyone. Schematics: I do not know how good or bad are that schematics, but I find $25 quite expensive cosidering I'll use that as an afficionado, and probably just once.  Optoisolator: I've found a photo here...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Thanks guys, that is good advice. What I usually do when I repair an Atari power supply is after the repair is complete, I load the supply with a resistor in each power rail, to avoid that the supply cuts output because there is no load. Then I adjust the 12V rail to a close value and fine...

Trying to repair a Classic II

I've read that it adjusts 12V and 5V is derived from that. If it's so, it's the same than the Atari power supplies, good. I've (finally) found the Apple security bulletin wich describes how to safely discharge it (and where to ground the wire to not damage the logic board). I'll probably build...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Any advice on how to remove it to perform the repairs minimizing the probability of zapping myself in the process?

Trying to repair a Classic II

Hi! I've spent today's afternoon trying to repair a Classic II that I had in my "to-do" list. I bought it as a non-working unit from UK a year ago, and as the seller said, it did not work, at all: no HD turning , no fan, no screen, no chime, nothing, nada. I opened it then and the pram battery...
