IIRC there is two regulators on the main board: one for the USB 5V and one for the FireWire 12V. And on some boards, depending on the revision of the board, the regulator for the FireWire (I think?) has two diodes in series soldered directly to two of its pins.
I have a Cube board where the...
Do you have the Cube speakers, or an USB audio module? It could help to know if the Cube will chime.
If you have an external FireWire drive with Mac OS installed, you can plug it in to try to boot with it.
And by the way, a long press on the power button will initiate a forced shutdown, by...
Lost items always end up in the most improbable places!
And by the way, anyone knows why there is a sticker on the IDE cable that says DVD RAM FOLD LINE, as can be seen in this photo? Did Apple consider a DVD RAM option for the Cube?
Maybe you can find a standard metallic spacer that would fit? It would not have the smaller rings protruding from each end, but I think those are only there to facilitate assembly.
Another solution, maybe simpler than rotating the CRT, would be to put the PDS cards elsewhere! If the hard drive is replaced by a BlueSCSI (or equivalent) and the HD bracket is removed, there is some space freed below the CRT. It is then just a matter of designing a PDS adapter card that would...
You’ll need a low profile card or it won’t fit, the VRM is in the way. The second one on your photo will definitely not fit. If you don’t mind less powerful cards, a Radeon 7500, or a (flashed) GeForce 6200 are good options.
I second that, I would not put much faith in old burnt media, especially the rewritable kind! Besides, a backup is only good if you test it regularly. What’s the point of having an archive if you can’t actually read it?
I can confirm that the Apple External Video Connector is strictly for mirroring: tested in a 6400, if I don’t plug a monitor in the usual video output I don’t get any image. My idea was tu use the Apple External Video Connector with a VGA adapter (that I would have mounted internally) in order...
