Picked up a Stylewriter ll at a Thrift shop for $3.99 Took it home and plugged it in to my PB180. Checked the PB180 for software. Just had to enable the software and everything seemed to work, just no printing. I remembered an earlier post about Q-tips and alcohol. Tried that on the cartidge even though it looked empty. Put it back in the printer and it started tp print!!! I printed off 105pages before it really ran out of ink. Only a couple of misfeeds and double papers. I thought it was pretty good for an old printer. Today I will down and see if I can find a new cartridge and/or refill this one. I had checked about getting a commercial place to print off these papers, they only did pc floppy's . So the old Stylewriter is a great value to me!!!

Good one. Suitable Canon-branded cartridges are still available, by the way.

While I should not guarantee that it would work under wet cement, the old StyleWriter II is pretty rugged. Not always graceful in operation, but—let's face it—if your car had somehow lost its wheels, you'd look favourably at wheels taken from Barney Rubble's vehicle, just to be able to keep your own going.

And a damned sight easier than fiddling about to run a USB printer from, say, a Classic II.

Very nice! Out of curiousity, what are the rubber rollers and stuff on it like? Its very common to see them splitting on SWIIs after all this time.

And yes, new Canon cartridges are still available for the SWII, check your nearest office supply store for Canon BC-02 cartridges.

I popped down the front panel on the Stylewriterll and there are some rollers there. They look a little worn, but are still soft and there are no cracks in the rubber at all? Maby this is a low mileage Stylewriter?

I have one in my basement. Not a bad printer and since your in Canada, Staples/Business Depot (Bureau en Gros) have that promise with stocking printer cartridges. They still carry ribbons for image writers! Since you have it working I assume you have a printer cable, if you ever loose it I hear you can use an S-Video cable.

... I hear you can use an S-Video cable.
Quite true. Both S/VHS (S-Video) and ADB use 4-pin miniDIN M/M cables, which are as cheap as chips (USD0.99 each for 4-ft) on eBay. I'm using four such with a 'KVM' switch (and DB-25/DB-25 cables) to allow three PPC Macs to use one Studio Display.
