Fun with MIDI today...

After testing input (playing synthlab instruments via midi keyboard) I figured I would make the IIgs play a duet with my Yamaha keyboard. Channel 1 is the piano, which I mute on the IIgs to make the keyboard receive/play it over midi channel 1. The end result is the iigs speaker playing the accompaniments and my keyboards speakers playing the main piano.

Finally worked my way back around to this machine.

Replacing/recapping PSU's is my current kick at the moment, so I ordered the universal PSU kit from reactive micro and installed it in my IIgs. Sadly the 2soniq sound cards are sold out but I did grab a mockingboard clone and installed that as well. I have it working, but I want to install a nice panel mount 3.5 jack for it on the back. I'll probably use a spare slot cover to fashion one.

I still have to get around to either finding a new tube, trying to rejuve this one (which I don't have the tools for), or perhaps seeing if a replacement flyback might even be an option or helpful at all. It's not the end of the world, I have a lot of 15k display options and a nice upscaler, but it just looks really nice to have the original monitor with this machine. Having the original sales receipts and all I try to keep the lot together.

On another good note though, I also finally fixed the ImageWriter II that came with this lot. Quite satisfying to see it fire up.

I think I've completely maxed this guy out for the time being. No accelerator, but otherwise:

4MB GGlabs Ram
Slots:
1: GGlabs SCSI, attached 2 volumes on a DB25 BlueSCSI
2: Blocked by Uthernet Jack, and Mockingboard audio Jack
3: Uthernet II
4: Mockingboard
5/6 left alone, FloppyEMU on the Floppy Port
7: Reactive Micro CF microdrive

I also have the now fixed ImageWriter II, a WiModem232 (I cannot recommend this thing enough), and several serial MIDI interfaces in the arsenal.

Much to my pleasure and surprise, console5.com got in a batch of stereo sound cards for IIgs. I took and old .mod with hard panned samples and recorded it on the same rig via the new stereo card, and via the GS headphones jack. The mono is definitely muddied up when both channels are going; the separation on the stereo card is amazing. Here are the recordings (both in this video, one after the other)
