scsiNonZeroStatus Quantum 80S scsi adaptec 2930cu

Hi, I pulled this Quantum 80S 980-80-9402 out of an SE/30 that I'm trying to get running. It's currently connected to the 50pin on-card port of the Adaptec 2930CU that came with my 2003 G4 Mirror Door Drive.

In OS9.2.2 using SCSI Probe I can see the disk but am getting this mount error:

Code:
FAILED: SCSI error: -7932 (2) Sense: 152 (0)

Found some docs and those codes mean: scsiNonZeroStatus -7932 The target returned non-zero status upon completion of the request

Is this a termination issue? or possibly a failed drive issue? Thanks! Here are some pics

Do you have any PCs? I've had SCSI drives go corrupt that were recoverable with a controller format by using an Adaptec HBA's built-in BIOS utilities, something that AFAIK isn't possible on any other platform, Mac or otherwise. IIRC those Quantum drives do not respond to the controller at all if they're broken enough that selfcal at initialization doesn't complete.

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately I don't have a PC. I'm now looking around for selfcal initialization stuff. Thanks for the info

Off topic but related, could the failing initialization of the drive be causing the no chime, no video issue? I'm thinking no but I haven't put logic board back in to test yet.

I can see in the photo of the disk that it is terminated - those disks use resistor packs next to the ribbon cable for termination.

Can I see the settings window for the card in the Adaptec utility?

The error sounds like it is trying to ask the disk about its LUN, but that is a thing from later versions of SCSI. You should turn any fancy features off like SCSI2 mode or anything.

No - the SE/30 should chime, and go to the question mark blinking floppy to inform you it's found no boot media and prompt for one.

Ah gotcha. The SCSIProbe5.2 utility - I clicked all around in there and there does not appear to be any settings menu or preferences. I can blink the light on the HDD with it. The error message I posted here was the result of me using the mount the feature in this software.

My plan now is to continue hacking on the SE/30 and then hopefully recover the data off this drive. I have a Wall Street in storage that I might dig out and test if this HDD is seen by it. Thanks again, both, for saving me a bunch of time troubleshooting this on the MDD
