PSI Cards for Macintosh Portable

I have a Portable with backlight that uniserver kindly re-capped for me, which is working quite well.

It has a PSI modem card,

and a PSI card for the PDS slot that has 3 daughter cards. From the little I can find out, this is likely 8 MB expansion that requires a driver to operate, which I don't have.

I'm hoping that someone here might have some more information or by some miracle, drivers for these cards!

Thanks,

Jim

Memory is on boot so it should not need a driver. Ill look at my memory card to see if its a psi. I know there are no drivers in my portable and all have different ram cards and one has a pds 1 meg card and a 1 meg in the memory slot. Just be careful as the ram modules from the non backlit do not work in the backlit even tho the connections are the same. Reason number two battery life in the backlit is gone so quick.

Hey Jim, I'm glad i could help!

With your memory.

Unless the memory card is from a Non Back Lit portable. The ram is very different from Backlit to non-backlit.

( witch makes sense if its 8mb ) Backlit's max memory is only 8mb.

the non back-lit could accept up to 9mb.

The switch is for allowing the connected card to be accessed. I have one with no attached cards. Mine is a 1 meg card for non backlit. If having the card in and switch either direction doesn't change your available ram, then it's for non backlit model. If that is the case I would love to take a attach card off your hands lol. My portable is great with 3 Meg's but one more meg would make it better than my plus (cause of the extra MHz).

Previously I had tried a few different settings on the switches which mostly resulted in the portable either ignoring the card, or coming up with a sad mac error. I've played with it a little more now and do seem to be making some progress, so it appears to be properly for the backlit model. I've now got it recognizing 4MB of the card so far, so I'm quite happy. I'm going to mess around with it a little more and see if it's truly an 8MB card or not.

Success! It is now showing 8,192K memory available. I hadn't pushed earlier because before uniserver re-capped it for me, it was acting strangely enough that I wasn't making much progress in getting a successful boot. Now it's working great.

That is a sick looking upgrade. My backlit is a single card. That's seriously stacked, pun intended and looks Rad.

What OS do you find works best on the portables, especially with 8MB? I obviously have 6.0.8 on there at the moment, but that was primarily as a quick way to get it running under 1MB. :?:

Well all mine have 6.0.8 from stock so I left it. No idea if anything else runs better. Guess I could try 7.0.1 or 7.1. I wish I had the original floppies tho. That would be great. At this point a copy would be nice.
