Help ID this 603e module - 180MHz for 1400?

Motorola 603 processor XPC603PRX180RE on IC-China's ebay store. Has three. US $5.95 BIN and flat $6 shipping.

Possibilities: 166MHz module from a 1400 (which were downclocked 180s), or 180MHz module from a 2400 or 3400? Or the rare 180MHz 1400 upgrade?

This image of a NuPower 183 MHz CPU from the link above certainly suggests it's for a 1400.

Hey Bunsen,

I think you're on the money with it being the stock Apple 166Mhz 603e CPU (180Mhz part downclocked) from a 1400/166 - as evidenced by the link below (bottom of page):

http://www.kevinomura.com/powerbooks/powerbook1400/index.html

The four yellow tantalum capacitors have the same silk-screened names.

Still, a good price for lethargic 117Mhz machines if you downlock the multiplier to 4X (the ROM on 117 and 133Mhz machines don't detect the 166Mhz CPU unless this is done)

Lethargic and cacheless!

Instructions for the downclock are at the link in the first post. Upgrading a 133 to 166 is a straight swap. So have at them comrades! I don't need one.

When searching for images of the module I came across this epic overclocking kludge

I second Byrd - it looks identical to both of my 166 Mhz modules. Also, if you take a closer look, it has "APPLE COMPUTER INC" silkscreened next to the 603e, so its an Apple part...Apple never made any CPUs for the 1400 faster than 166 Mhz.
