G4 Processor Upgrades

I was on the MacSales site, looking at the G4 processor upgrades for an old AGP 400 Mhz Sawtooth, and I had some questions. It feels...expensive, but of course the computer would be faster. Did anyone here upgrade their processor and what you think about it? Which would be better: dual processors or a single processor with an L3 cache?

I was also curious about the lack of stock on the MacSales site and even the makers themselves. I was searching for the 2.0 GHz upgrade on PowerLogix and the page led me nowhere. Similarly, going on Sonnet's site led me to several products that had been discontinued. Their one available product was a 1 GHz upgrade, which isn't enough for me. I want to use my Sawtooth for a while longer. Does this mean that G4 processors upgrades are a dead end, or are they developing new products?

Nobody is making G4's anymore (for years now), and I think the fastest of those upgrades are just overlocked G4 CPUs. You would be better off with a newer G4 that had atleast 133Mhz RAM to stick a faster G4 in. I installed a 1.8Ghz Single G4 into sombodies DA and MDD and they felt faster, but the cost was not too cheap. The difference between a dual and single CPU depends on what software you will be using.

You can most likely find a Mirror Drive Door G4 for the cost of a CPU upgrade for Sawtooth. I just sold my FastMac 1.4 GHz CPU upgrade for $100 just to sell it quick and it recouped half of what I paid for the machine I bought to replace the Sawtooth. I bought a dual 1GHz MDD, 1.75GB memory, DL Super Drive, USB 2.0 card, keyboard, mouse, Airport card, ATi 9000 Pro with DVI and ADC, 120 and 80GB hard drives for $200!
