Finally acquired my first Newton... no serial adaptor

...among a haul that also included 4 Palms and an Apple iie system (which I've also been after for a while). All units desperately need cleaned, which I can do at my work (we clean and repair electronic point of sale hardware).

It's an MP2000 with the MP2100 upgrade sticker, a pcmcia modem, and a pcmcia 12mb flash card. It included the rechargeable battery (dead), AA tray, and keyboard. Unfortunately though, we couldn't track down the proprietary JAE->8pin serial adaptor.

IF somebody had a spare, I'd be interested in buying one or trading for something else.

I plan to use this device for logging setlists at live jam shows. Feels appropriate for the task.

Our pal @androda makes an internal serial board for the MP2000/2100 as well. Unfortunately, it’s out of stock at the moment, but I can vouch for it’s quality.

Based on my own experience, I wouldn’t touch Newton Sales with a ten foot stylus.

If you get an Ethernet card I’m pretty sure (virtually certain) you can sync with that as well.

Does that have screen rot, or is the lighting just really bad?

Just the pic I'd say - the backlighting diminishes over time in heavily used Newtons (or buzzed more); there were some aftermarket EL light upgrades developed for it over the years.

If you’re still looking for the serial adapter the eBay seller RyanCook11 has a couple for sale he’s asking $30 plus shipping. I offered $25 and he accepted that. Not cheap but a fair price Looks like he has two left

Years ago when I first picked up a Newton 2100 I seem to recall using IR to get Ethernet setup and then using that to transfer file honestly haven’t really used mine in years but I went ahead and got the serial adapter to have it
