Camera!

After ~4 years of mooching off either my sister's Nikon D50, my mother's Nikon Collpix-somethingorother, or my father's Olympus ruggedized point and shoot I have finally decided to buy my own camera, with the money I've eared from tutoring thusfarly. What I got is a Cannon PowerShot A590IS, which is a pretty snazzy camera. 8MP, 4x optical/4x digital zoom, real viewfinder, supports SDHC cards, has image stabilization, takes VGA res movies at 30fps, all that jazz. Cost $150, very worth it.

At the moment I have a 2GB card in it, and I plan to get an 8GB card once they drop below $10, which is close. I am aware that I could have saved $30 purchasing from newegg or similar online sites, but goodness I'm impatient when it comes to gadgetry. It also uses AA batters instead of those horrific lithium ion packs, which is great cause I have a bunch of high-cap rechargeable nimh around.

So, in the coming days expect pictures to be uploaded and linked to in the "a picture a day" thread.

I have the same camera, You can use CHDK on it (There is a beta). PC World also rated this camera the best point and shoot. Love it!

Woah, really? I read around about chdk and couldn't find anything definitive, just that they were getting kinda close. Could you direct me to a link or something?

And I'm not at all surprised it's rated best p&s; really amazing camera.
