I can report success. I created the header in a hex editor ( I had to write a little C program to do the checksum), concatenated it with my raw image, transfered it to the mac, and created the resource fork as per the wiki. It loaded right up in Disc Copy and reported the correct checksum. I...
If I understand correctly, the superdrive in my Mac Classic is able to read and write dos formatted disks. Is there image software available to write a dos .dsk? It's just a raw image file, I'd use rawrite on dos or dd on unix.
The goal is to write a bootable floppy for my new old Tandy...
Since we're on this topic, I thought I'd ask this here. I need to resolder the connector from the analog board to the yoke. My SE/30 has been unplugged for a couple weeks now. Will I need to discharge the CRT?
Nice, I love the GoodBytes store! Glad to see it's doing good business. Haven't had a chance to get out there recently, though. Bought a TRS-80 last time I was there, and haven't done a thing with it. I have a backlog of hardware anyway, so
I'm trying to stay away for a while. :lol...
That's good news. I'll go ahead and resolder the connector then.
The floppy drive has mechanical problems. It won't accept a disk without some effort on my part. What I have to do is push the disk as far back as it will go with a paper clip, then reach underneath the tray on the right side...
I have an SE/30 with a few problems. One is the jittery screen. I've read that that can be replaced by resoldering the joints on the yoke connector. Since I'm going to have to discharge the CRT for this anyway, should I be proactive and replace C1 on the analog board while I'm in there...
Hm, I thought I might. I'm a little concerned about mucking around with capacitors in a power supply, how do you discharge them safely?
Guess I'll do the power supply lead thing at the same time.
Scary. I had a look on my IIgs motherboard the other night. There's no sign of deterioration of the caps there, but now I'm worried about the power supply. Is it worth opening that up to possibly change the caps prophylactically?
Yeah, I opened it up, it's a Classic motherboard. :-/ I kind of figured as much when the RAM I installed actually worked, well 1mb of it. Well crap, I got cheated. Anyone got a spare Classic II motherboard? heh
Oh, they're definitely 4mb SIMMs. I did a little searching and found that I was installing the SIMMs into the memory expansion card, and not the slots on the motherboard.
So my next question is, why does my Classic II have a memory expansion card? It's clearly identified as a Classic II on...
So I have a Classic II with 4 mb of RAM. I got it open (finally) removed the old memory and installed 2 4mb 30 pin SIMMs. I power up the Mac, go to "About This Macintosh" and it tells me I still have 4mb of RAM. I tried reseating the RAM a few times and nothing changed. What's going on?
So, I'm trying to get into my Classic II to install some RAM. I have a T-15 driver that will reach the silver screws under the handle. I can take a flashlight, shine it into the hole and see that the screw is turning. Problem is, the screw doesn't seem to be coming out, it's just spinning in...
Wow, I'm pretty amazed that there's not an easy solution for this. But anyway,
I was lucky enough to find a copy of ClarisWorks on the disk. I didn't expect
an office suite to have a terminal program, but it does. I was able to send
the stuffit.sea.bin over, and ClarisWorks automatically...
Ok, here's the deal. I have a Mac Classic II I'd like to play around with. Problem is
I don't have a pc with a floppy drive, nor do I have any HD floppies.
What I do have is an Apple IIgs. I have the Apple IIgs hooked to my serial port, and
I can copy anything I need to it via Zmodem. I...
