My. Sorry for the terribly slow update. I misplaced the powerbrick. Just found it today. But, I'm not sure there's much point in reading off the hex from the screen given I know it was working prior to the failed install. A JAZ drive with a Traveler adapter would be mighty fine right about now...
I have a Powerbook 190cs that is really irritating me. I was updating from 7.5.3 to 7.5.5 when it froze up
at the very end. It will see its hard disk, but before it makes it to the "Welcome to Macintosh" screen, the Powerbook
displays the Sad Mac screen and chimes. I've tried boot disks...
I like Netscape 3.04, and think it's the most modern tolerable browser on my G3 266. Believe it or not, it gracefully degrades on most sites that aren't Web 2.0, and even works on some forums. Unfortunately, on a 603e 100Mhz, it's like watching paint dry and reminiscent of dial-up, but other...
Have you checked all the electrolytics and tested the power supply rails. Dirty power or bulging capacitors can cause system crashes or failures to boot.
Can't say I read this whole thread, but I think old Quantum SCSIs were notorious for developing stiction. A gentle slap may free the heads from the platter in such a case, allowing the drive to continue working. I'm sure a search of Google Groups will turn plenty of stuff up if this is indeed an...
Yeah, I'll look for a 16v power brick. Still, I'm worried, as that supply was emitting more than 500mv of ripple! Seriously, I could just watch the needle wiggle on my multimeter. From now on, I'll test my older power supplies before using, and I suggest others do the same. If it's not fairly...
Uh... bump, as I've also got trouble. Busted mine open, and a Traicon primary cap is clearly bulged to heck. Hope I didn't cook my PowerBook, because I repeatedly forced the machine despite the supply's loud and sickly buzzing sound. Figure I'll buy a generic chinese laptop power brick for $20...
