My 13" is not working very well, so I succeed in getting the rebirth IIci working on a 19" PC monitor (Hyundai imageFlat F910), using a...

Smart answer !!!
I tried with a standard trinitron 13" and guess what ?
Alleluya !
Now why the heck is the multisync monitor not working with it ?
<< If it makes a chime on startup, it has found a ROM. >>
Oh yes, that's simple I should have thought about it.
<< The IIci has a jumper at W1 that enables the built-in ROM. >>
That's right, I can see the jumper.
Thanks for your answers.
I'm not confident because...
Hello,
I just got a IIci which is not working (death shime).
At the moment the motherboard is drying after a good wash.
Here is my problem:
There is an empty white slot on the center of the motherboard, labelled "ROM SIMM". Is that rom missing ? Can the IIci work with this slot empty ?
I don't think so.
Setting up an assembly line must be very expensive, and there is probably no market for such small capacities HD except for us, poor fool guys [:o)] ]'>
Moreover, spinning hard disks will probably disappear quickly.
Anyway the idea of Flash HD in a Mac LC makes me...
wackymacs, you're a smart guy 8-)

Well, it sounds like a good idea, but will the machines boot on such a non Apple device ?
In fact a few adapters would be enough as I don't need to start a bunch of Mac at once.
You're right.
All dying hard drives are Quantum ProDrive ELS.
Conner and IBM are still working.
Conclusion: Don't buy Quantum drives, they are not reliables :-))
I can assure you that I started my 6 LC 475 yesterday to (check their hard drives), without batteries using the PRAM keystroke.
When I need battery I just sold two standard "AAA" batteries together, then to the motherboard. It's not pretty to look at but it works.
I do that only for the...
8-o I would never thought about putting it in a dish machine
Thank you for putting the rights technical words.
As we say in France "Je faisais de la prose sans le savoir'".
Just in case you don't know this tip about old hardware:
If you have an old Mac that just do not boot (even without shime), look carefully at the motherboard, you will probably see some kind of grease leak around the chips.
As you have nothing to loose, get the motherboard out of the chassis...
Hello,
Here is my powermacs motherboard/chassis experience:
5500 <==> 5400 OK
5300 <==> 5200 OK
5200/5300 <==> 5400/5500 Fits but doesn't work
(note: theses experiences did not damage any hardware)
LC630 is a 68K mac, I don't think putting a 5400 motherboard in it will work.
Hello,
I have about 15 old Macs in my collection.
Classic I/II, LC I/II/III/475, Quadra 650/700, Mac II an so on...
But I am in trouble with my war treasure: Almost all hard disks are out of order.
They all have the same symptom: when I turn the computer on, they start spinning for a few...
Hello,
You can start your LC without battery.
In this case you just need to reset the PRAM on every cold start, using the 'classic' Alt+Command+P+R Keystroke
Yes, I know 8-)
