--On an old Compact Mac, to be precise. Well, t may be that initially it was. But it ended up demonstrating that a Macintosh Classic is able to be in the *very first* (typing, choosing fonts, composing and layout) as well as the *very last* chain (just displaying) of creating and displaying a...
BUMP!! [:D] ]'> [:D] ]'>
Custom home-made pdf files for the Classic and other compact 68000 .pdf capable Macs finally became a reality.
This and this are snapshots of what has been achieved up until now.
Coming soon will be a small tutorial on which the steps were.
Thanks to forum...
Things are getting better by the moment. Now we have got control over the fonts! [8D]
Together with 68k mla forum friend nlp, we are managing to implement a full-font linux/windows created .pdf file to view in the Macintosh Classic.
This surely will enhace the vast uses such a machine has...
---I am terribly sorry. I did not get absolutely anything in this last paragraph... 8-o
---Yes, it is.
---window$, though I am painfully trying to start SheepShaver under linux [xx(] ]'> and there is no way I can mount Macvolume.HFV (a Mac OS 8.5 image completely usable in window$ under...
Adobe PhotoShop 1.0 installed on the Macintosh Classic did the trick. Simply converting the orignal .PICT file to a .TIF one would allow to process it in GiMP to output a .JPG or whatever format a modern image manipulation suite can support.
Regards.
---Yep, something has been found. See this.
This has been achieved by means of emulation, by running Basilisk II under Window$. The original file was an ordinary text with no format done with my usual Office suite in Linux (I use AbiWord), then saved as a .txt file and converted into the...
---Glad you got it working. Please forgive me if I did not bring ideas for you just in time.
As I told, something similar happened to me, and I solved it by downloading the separate images for system 7.0 in floppies (about 1,3~1,4 mb each), which btw I burned using Diskcopy. How would I get...
---Hhmmm...looks weird. That should not happen. I will give it a try later this afternoon, and will try to keep you informed...
Eeer, by the way you don't mention which model of Mac have you got...is it perhaps a Classic?
Regards.
---Why would I want a Classic itself? Why would I want to run Cubase in a Classic? Why do I want to collect things? It is supposed that when you find something for collector purposes and try to find it useful, the more things you get for it (software, programs, apps...), the better it is.
---I...
-----How is that done? ps2pdf will write .pdf files AdobeReader *3.0* compatible as a very minimum. Chances are either I could find an earlier ps2pdf version or any other app...
----Yup. I am in touch with the pdf-devel gnu mail list to see if they could point to somewhere.... :?: :?: :?:
----Uuups, my fault again, sorry :I :I :I :I
As you see, I am not proficient with inside-Classic stuff....
Some other people told me just the same....these white leaking thing is **not** leaking from capacitors, but glue to prevent them moving on the board...
I did not see any...
Yes, there is.
Here you can download executable files to run in Window$ in order to create bootable floppies for the Classic. I myself jammed my Macintosh Classic harddisk boot, and that solved the problem. Hope you will too.
You must download 608sysst.exe. This will create a system disk that...
------Great. Is good to track a problem. :beige: But:
The trouble is that I myself **do not** have soldering skills...do not know who could help me.... :-/ ...even if those capacitors will be able to find....
---Uuups...by that do you mean this and this? Or this has got just nothing to do?
Anyway the Classic starts up ok within a few power-on retries. This last picture was taken after the other inside pics, once reassembled....
Thanks for a quick reply....
--I prefer to render .pdf files, if that is possible.
It is known that ps2pdf will do but outputting Reader 3.0 compatible files as a minimum... :-/
The other option is...Does any reader Classic compatible that accepts 3.0 compatible files exist? I suppose it does not. :(
So here my quiz...
How could I create .pdf files Adobe-Reader 1.0 compatible? This is the software I have got installed on my Classic.
I use ps2pdf software in my Linux box to create my own .pdf files, but these are only backwards compatible up to Reader 3.0 as a minimum.
Hence, Adobe Reader 1.0 for Apple...
Found the right torx t-15 screwdriver, €2,10. :-)
This is what I found:
ROM and every other chip ok. No leaking capacitors in the motherboard.
Battery out, installed a new one. This is not relevant, since Classics can run with no battery.
Tried unplugging hard SCSI drive and floppy drive...
