Hey again you! I'm in the same boat, my new job (and side job) have pretty much made me unavailable here for quite a while. But, I'll try to pop in again every now and then to say hello.
:b&w:
Well, okay...I guess the program did end, sometime last year. [xx(] ]'>
However, the Genius Bar manager at the Apple Store store felt bad that the rep on the phone said I could still get it fixed and had me go through the trouble of going all the way down there for nothing. So, he gave...
The serial does fall under the program guidelines, and I called Apple and surprisingly they said it does still qualify for the comp repair. I'm going to swing by an Apple Store tomorrow and see what happens! As for the 14", that one is up for grabs, and I will take pics of it later today so...
I did a clean install of 10.4 with all the updates on both machines via firewire disk mode from my Mini, and other than their respective issues they're running good. Forgot to mention both have airport cards, as well. Heavymetal, hold that thought...I'm thinking of trying to drop by an...
First real conquest in quite a while, but a good one. I came into two iBook G3s that were otherside going to be trashed, though both have hardware problems.
First is a 12", 800Mhz/128MB/30GB/Combo
It's got some serious video bus issues...after a short while of use the LCD display goes black...
When I got it back, Apple had not bothered to clear out the forced verbose boot-up, and I'd forgotten how to disable it. Luckily the local shop cleared it for me without any further charge. Apple had also installed Leopard on the new drive for me, but they must have screwed something up with...
Just a quick update, after a full month and a half of waiting I finally got my Mini back. And no, unfortunately it wasn't a new one. They actually replaced the mobo, hard drive and optical drive...so it's like a brand new Mini, albeit a G4, but in the old case. ;-)
I'll hopefully be...
So, to continue the story, I decided to take yonder Mini to my local Mac shop, a place that actually just opened within a month and is now only the second Mac shop in my immediate area (the first had questionable customer service skills). Anyway, they took the drive out for $75 (and then later...
Yeah, I have a sneaking suspicion that if I can get the drive out, it will either work just fine or will be repaired by Disk Utility/etc. The trouble is doing so looks pretty hairy...especially with the AppleCare hanging in the balance. I'm wondering if I can't just get some Apple-sanctioned...
I totally forgot that you can't boot PPC's from USB, so last night I ran out and got a Ministack v2 (I was actually planning to get one anyway). So, I had a blank HD in the Ministack and a bare DVD-RW on my USB-to-IDE (both connected to my iBook G4) and was all ready to install OS X to the...
Tried holding down mouse button, doesn't work. Also, the eject button was removed from the optical drives in the Minis (well, the PPC Minis as far as I know). Seriously....the little PCB is there, but no button. After much Googling, the only option is to unscrew the top of the optical drive...
It was the most recent update for Tiger...I don't remember the specifics. But, it's a G4 Mini, and that particular drive update is supposedly for Mactels only.
Anyway...took the Mini to an Apple store, described the problem, and they booted the mini from an external hard drive. The issue was...
