That wont matter if it is an external HDD - If it is a firewire HDD then it could be used to directly install Mac OS onto and selected as a startup disk via the CD, Startup Control Panel OR when pressing ALT/OPTION immediately after powering on the computer.
Some PPC portables with USB 1.1 can...
Adding more RAM at this point is not going to improve things. The errors that you are reporting would be due to OS, HDD, RAM or worse case MLB.
The only way to get to the bottom of this is to reduce the computer down to the basics. In your case that would be an Airport card (if one was fitted...
Today I was given a free Power Book G3 'Lombard' 333 by a coworker - 384Mb RAM/12Gb HDD / CD with 2 hour battery life and Apple 45W non UFO power adapter.
PRAM battery is good so do not have to set the date after every cold boot
I now regret giving away an unused DVD decoder / DVD drive kit...
If the HDD allowed a reformat and re-install, that leaves RAM (simplest to isolate by removing from under the keyboard) OR the soldered RAM on the logic board could be faulty which may not get accessed until all of the RAM is utilised...
First though; the disc that was used to install Mac OS -...
Oh dear
Some early iMac G5's suffer with one of three issues - swollen/leaking capacitors on the MLB, a defective power supply OR both issues
The power supply is cheap and easy to replace but the MLB - Well forget it, just not worth the hassle and expense of replacement or repair.
Apple did...
Still have a 2003 PM G5 1.8 Uni which was little or no faster than the PM G4 1.42DP I wanted to replace it with. I added a Radeon X800XT and it is in daily use running 10.5x. Never quite impressed with the move to G5 even when they scaled to Quads and became more complicated.
A Mac Pro is...
The iMac G5...
What size is the display, does it have a built in camera above the display?
Bear in mind that a hosed software update OR certain versions of Mac OS may play havoc with the System Management Unit
All software updates should be carried out or re-run from a good installer if one...
I prefer the 'metalled' look of the early 2nd-Gen iBook to the later models and when you see one in mint condition, they are still a thing of beauty.
Despite negative press over dual USB iBooks, the early models were well made and not as unreliable as reports may suggest. You should be careful...
As someone else on here rightly pointed out the 6100/DOS card cabling allows you to share one display between the DOS or Mac OS environment(s)
It is possible to plug a display directly into the DOS card and get by without the cable - You lose the seamless switching between Mac OS and DOS...
Seems like it has already done the rounds of forums
Just found this when searching the serial number: SG0140FLJ7B

Bought a Flower Power iMac G3 that turned out to have a G4 upgrade inside.
It started out as a Snow G3 400 but over time has had many parts added/swapped out including the casing
After a little research it turns out this upgrade was carried out by...
Have the whole lot inc cabling - see post 'beige must go' in trading section
Willing to split from 6100/66 a Mac I have owned from new but wish to see the back of
In my case they did - I was surprised to find this to be so when I bought a FW400 1.42 NEW just before the original PM G5 came out. It became faulty 5 years later, so I bought another that had a faulty processor and transferred it over as that one was FW800 only.
Working 1.42's were fetching...
I have that GPU in the 66MHz slot, but without the fan (DVI & VGA) - it came with a B&W that I collected for free in a Shopping mall car park. It has a ZIP drive too. The G4 500MHz ZIF card was sourced off ebay, someone was selling a Beige G3 with one fitted. I offered to buy the card...
When current, Matrox stated, RTMac was only compatible with an AGP equipped G4 - however, I fitted a G4 500MHz ZIF card into a B&W which worked reasonably well
Any 167mhz NON FW800 logic board from the MDD series that has a 1.42 DP card installed makes for an 'official' fastest OS 9...
