I know this has been asked before, but the threads ended early because the posters got the cards working without needing the schematic.
I have two LC-PDS Apple IIe cards. One works perfectly and the other gives me the "defective" or "10019" error on the same machine, a pristine LC475. I've...
I have a spare SCSI Zip drive I'll sell for the cost of shipping if anyone is still interested. I just tested it a few days ago and it still works fine.
Until I had a 144hz gaming monitor, there was nothing with decent input lag other than my Apple 21" studio display. PPC Macs were the last time Apple made anything I wanted to buy. Maybe they'll start making computers that aren't kids toys again when Gil Amelio #2 is kicked out.
Ok, so storage hasn't kept pace with Moore's law, but that doesn't explain why OS I/O requirements have exploded. I can easily explain why the number of transistors in CPUs and GPUs doubles every 2 years, but no one can reaally explain all the reasons why commercial OSes always immediately use...
Usually things that are close (but not the same) are actually far worse than far off because the expectation of it being the same will drive the user mad. DEs like Gnome 3 and Unity, I believe, are a good way to break users away because they will expect to learn something new. GNU/Linux just...
The folks here are opposed to using Linux on PPC macs to modernize them, as they feel it is not in the spirit of the challenge (PPC for a week on Mac OS).
IMO, If you're going to use OS X, you're already failing the challenge -- the real challenge is OS 9. I mean, why use a bad version of UNIX...
Anyone who considers flat HTML/CSS pages to be bad form are... part of the problem. There's nothing wrong with simplicity if it suits the content. Pages like drudge report have a format that I like (though I may sometimes find the content offensive :-/ ).
I'd love to use PPC and 68k to browse...
You're understanding the post correctly. I know there are a few die-hard Mac collectors that would pay $400 dollars to max-out their IIfx, but considering 32GB of DDR4 is half that price, I'm not sure everyone would make the purchase decision. I think Kickstarter is the way to go, though I...
I have yet to find a quote that would put the price close to what people would be willing to pay. I'm considering starting a kickstarter or indygogo to fund a large volume. I'm in grad school and the semester just started, so I haven't had a lot of time to pursue it, but I haven't forgotten.
Sadly, the production costs for 64 assembled SIMMs would be nearly $35 per SIMM. I've asked the manufacturer to give me a quote for non-assembled SIMMs, which should be ~1/3 the price.
Has anyone been able to install A/UX on a Compact Flash card using the SCSI/CF adapter (Aztec Monster)?
I've tried the FWB HDT PE driver and the HD driver from Drive Setup in 9.2.2, both of which hang my Quadra 700 during the A/UX install boot.
On the same machine, I successfully installed...
I'll be using the chips you used: I don't think anyone is interested in anything less than 16 MB modules, and the chips for 4MB are the same price, so there's no reason to go with the smaller capacity SIMM. The only reason I first thought of 4MB modules was that they were the only chips I was...
dougg3,
This is great, if your SIMMs work then there's no point in me iterating on an untested layout. Thanks for posting!
There is a local place that will build boards kitted, so I can send them a big stack of those samsung chips with the gerbers and have a bunch made. I'll get a quote this...
I found some lots of chips on ebay used on 4MB 64 pin SIMMs, M5M44100BJ. I'm going to do a circuit board layout and will have a few SIMMs made at a local PCB shop.
It would offset the cost to have a bunch made, and I'd sell them at cost. Would anyone be interested?
