Some of the procedures and timeframes are left over from colonial times.
Some states like Florida aren't happy with it either - and they are trying to buck the system. The parties don't like it though...
Hey, it's Super Tuesday here in the states.
Time to vote.
No, not for the presidential primaries - for the retrochallenge!
I promise - a floppy in every household, defragment the national hard drive, and uh, strong network security. Yea, that's the ticket.
I agree - wonderful job Luddite, it was great fun.
I can't decide which part of the retochallenge winner's presentation I like the best.
The lucrative prize money; the presentation of the golden 5 1/4" floppy by the Swedish bikini team, or the previous year's winner presenting the vintage...
That is really really cool.
What power suppy is that? I thought the LC 475 had a regular 3 prong power supply - but the one in the pic looks like a 2 prong or something.
Nice job Equant.
However - in the "About" menu, under the Apple - it says About RCWW2007 instead of 2008.
Then again, I'm sure my Talking Moose version slaughtered the pronunciation of people's names and nicknames.
I'm bummed I didn't get a single comment about it though.
I've got a couple USB card readers that sort of work on OS 8.6 & 9 - but there are issues.
1 of them is a no name brand and it's huge limiting factor is it won't read SD/MMC cards bigger than 64mb!
The other one I have is Lexar Media Multi Card Reader (USB 2 - but works on USB 1) that is...
I've got a g3 ibook - still on OS 9 - that I was backing up to a g4 via Firewire target disk mode.
If you drag the disk to another disk - it does the alias thing.
If you drag the contents - it copies them - but does not copy the desktop folder contents.
I had 1.5 gigs of stuff it didn't copy...
Thank you for these icons. Some great ones in there.
Unfortunately I had trouble opening these on an OS 9 system. Using either Stuffit Expander or Unzip to unzip the archive - everything expands fine but no custom icons are included - the resource forks don't come with them.
So I unzipped it...
Can you tell us more about the Performa - what model is it?
No classic Mac audio application had built in remote control functionality.
Your best bet would be to use a Macro app like Quickkeys.
Do you know if the Apple remote in effect sent "key presses" or function keys to the computer?
If...
I persuaded the Talking Moose to come out of retirement and wish everyone luck at the half way point.

It looks like there needs to be additional hardware to support two drives.
Addonics has an ide-scsi adapter for 1 drive - $85, and 2 drives - $105.
http://www.addonics.com/products/io/ad2idesc.asp
The single drive is about twice what I paid for the Acard.
Unfortunately - or fortunately...
I recently bought a SCSI to IDE adapter.

I haven't installed it yet - but one thing has me very curious. I've always assumed that it only works with a single drive.
But the (somewhat outdated) manual sort of implies that it has a full fledged IDE...
A little more investigating has turned up one that was known to work.
The Adtron Accent.

Take a look at the manual that is at the bottom of the page.
I found it while browsing through the Low End Mac Duo List. Someone with a 2300 was using it. I'm...
I too am curious about this.
I've got it running on an iBook using 9.2.1 and it keeps warning me that it isn't tested for the newer operating system.
I've heard conflicting reports about whether or not 9 has any 68k coded anywhere - and I also read that after Speed Doubler first came out -...
So is the speed difference quntafiable?
Obviously it can run larger monitors since it has more vram - but how can you tell that it is faster than the AV card?
So would the speed order for a 6100 be (from slowest to fastest)
Vampire Video (on board)
Nubus card
AV card
HPV card
?
WOW!
This is a great list. Thank you Maccess!
Regarding the HPV and AV cards versus on board video - more info is here:

I just installed Jerry's Finder Patches on an iBook running 9.2.1 - and it really...
