Newsgroup service for vintage Mac SE?

Perhaps for a pre-build one. But its very easy to build your own. The RPi-image can be downloaded, and the Voltage Line Inducer is very simple to put together. Only requires two simple components and 1 (or 2 if you live in Europe) 9V batteries. The hardest bit is to find a compatible USB/phone...

Newsgroup service for vintage Mac SE?

Yes! You get the full experience of dialing up. The DreamPi is just a phone line/ISP emulator. The modem isn't even aware that it is not dialing up on a proper phone line. To make it work I had to install MacPPP and MacTCP. My init string for the modem was ATX0, but I suppose that varies with...

Newsgroup service for vintage Mac SE?

Yeah, DreamPi is a pretty cool solution. It was developed by Kazade for the Sega Dreamcast community, but is in fact a cool general purpose ISP-emulator that you can dial up from any vintage computer with an old Hayes modem. I love the idea of a general-purpose retro-proxy for any old device...

Newsgroup service for vintage Mac SE?

I have recently succeeded in connecting my trusty old Mac SE running OS6 to the internet, using a modem connection to a RPi running DreamPi. I also installed a newsgroup client - InterNews - and now I am looking for a newsgroup service I can connect to. Preferably hosting groups about vintage...

FOUND: MacFORTH early Mac professional dev system for Forth code

A thank you to cmao. I got it to work from the DSK images at Macintosh Repository. My old PPC 7200 would not accept the disk images, but OS 7.6 on Basilisk would, so I transferred the contents to a .sit-file in Basilisk and transferred the sit-files to the PPC, and from there to my old SE FDHD.

FOUND: MacFORTH early Mac professional dev system for Forth code

Hi! I am also looking for a usable image of MacForth Plus. Could you send it to me as well, please?

PowerBook 145 shuts down during startup

But removing the diode would mean to cut power input entirely, wouldn't it? Anyway, a periodic short sounds likely, and I do think the problem is in the screen/keyboard part of the chassis. Just difficult to figure out where to start looking...

PowerBook 145 shuts down during startup

It is a diode right behind the barrel connector, the D16 (same problem as this video: ). I think it serves to prevent wrong polarization of the power input. The replacement BTW is a 1N1007 (not a 1N1004 - not that it makes a lot of difference anyway). The original D16 might be a zener, the...

PowerBook 145 shuts down during startup

Got a little further. I replaced the VL2320 with a new VL2330. The old one only measured around 1.2V, which was way too little. I can boot the machine from floppy now, and the screen looks decent. But only with the HD disconnected. As soon as I add the HD, the current draw seems to get too high...

PowerBook 145 shuts down during startup

Actually, I use a laboratory PSU, that also measures the current. It will supply up to 3A with no issues, so I don't think this is the issue. ... and BTW, the original PSU is sooo dead. Need to fix that later.

PowerBook 145 shuts down during startup

Hi This is my first post here, but I need some ideas to help me troubleshoot a PowerBook 145 I acquired. When I got it it was completely dead. After some youtube searching, I found that the diode in the power input was toast, and after replacing it with a 1N4004, the machine started Booting...
