Displaying external VGA signal on an SE/30s display

Thanks for the notes on timing and helpful suggestions. It looks like that's going to be the plan.

Displaying external VGA signal on an SE/30s display

I was looking (hoping) for an MCU based VGA converter or something like that that might already exist. Not really far-fetched considering probably most of the Macs owned on this forum (including mine) are kept alive and relevant by the likes of these "cybernetic" implants (and the modders have...

Displaying external VGA signal on an SE/30s display

I can't seem to find a single mention of this anywhere, though I've found dozens trying to go the other way. I'd like to gut my SE/30 and use it as a dummy terminal for a PIC24 based computer I'm building. By "gut" I mean I want to use only the case and display (if possible) from the SE/30 and...

    Dead LaserWriter Pro?

Thanks for the replies. I figured if it was something relatively simple I'd give it a shot, but not going to shell out for a recap or put that type of effort in. I have it in my possession so figured I'd at least ask and see if there was something obvious. It's too big to keep around as a...

    Dead LaserWriter Pro?

I figured I'd post this as a last ditch attempt before it went into the landfill/ewaste. I've got a LaserWriter Pro that I got from someone along with an LC III. Both had been in storage and were very well looked after machines, but just not used in ages. The LC III works, but unfortunately the...

FOUND: MacFORTH early Mac professional dev system for Forth code

Wow I must have also contributed to the summoning as I've just gotten into Forth and been running it on my DM41X (modern HP41CV clone) Does this run on 7.x.x? I.e. would it run on an SE/30 with 7.1.1? My emulator stopped working when I got a new Macbook so now I actually have no way to get...

SE/30 Unstable behaviour after 128MB RAM install

Sorry I haven't been in in awhile. Looks like you got yourself quite sorted SE30_Neal? Did soldering the pins work? I haven't had the chance yet. I've been too busy/lazy. I just leave my case lid open and press on the ROM-inator manually if it doesn't work! The rubber bands I had in place...

SE/30 Unstable behaviour after 128MB RAM install

SE30_Neal if you're going to use an elastic band you'll need to make sure it *really* pulls on the card. I had to triple up the bands on mine and still occasionally will need to press on the ROM-inator on bootup (the corner of is is just barely accessible if the case is open. Get something...

SE/30 Unstable behaviour after 128MB RAM install

According to that page, nothing needs to be done (i.e. no resource editing) in order for the ROM-inator to work with my system. I'm running 7.1.1 and it looks like everything there is only necessary for 7.5x and higher.

SE/30 Unstable behaviour after 128MB RAM install

SE30_Neal if you don't use something like a rubber band or paper clips to apply forward pressure to the ROM-inator it will create the vertical stripes issue. Mine does this consistently as the rubber bands I use are not tight enough. For now, I'm just lightliy pressing the ROM-inator forward...

SE/30 Unstable behaviour after 128MB RAM install

The good news is that I took out the RAM from block B leaving only 64MB and ran the machine for quite awhile last night without any freezes. The programs that took a long time to launch before with 128MB were quicker this time and seemed to launch more stable-y. However I noticed that the...

SE/30 Unstable behaviour after 128MB RAM install

Thanks for the replies. I did reseat the RAM but no luck. Trag that was what I was going to try next: using only 64MB "just to see if that helps". I'll try the voltmeter, though if it's not up to voltage there's not much I can do about it right now. Nothing on this one has been refurbished and...

SE/30 Unstable behaviour after 128MB RAM install

After chugging by and barely being able to get along with the 5MB RAM my SE/30 had in it, I finally got myself 128MB. Unfortunately, after the install, the computer behaves erratically. In particular, certain programs (Emacs especially) now take a ridiculously long time to load, when they don't...

    LaTeX editor on classic MacOS

A bit late on this one, but I posted somewhat the complement to this question. How are you even running LaTeX on a classic mac? I'm running Mac Emacs 1.17 (7.1.1 on SE/30) which actually has a latex-mode built in. Perfect. Now where do you actually get LaTeX for said classic mac?

Getting LaTeX on an SE/30 with 7.1.x

Hello all, Long time listener, first time caller here. I have an SE/30 up and running with a SCSI2SD under System 7.1.1. I would really like the ability to compile LaTeX documents on it. I even see that Emacs 1.17 has a latex-mode! However I can't find even mention of a LaTeX distribution that...
